hi ther im just wondering if someone may be able to help me with a question i have my father is now at a stage were he is going to withdraw from driving due to ill health .

he has a 2005 vauxhall vectra estate 30 V6 deisel and im thinking of having his car of f of him as my new tow vehicle .

we have a elldis odyssey 544 with an MTPLM of 1560 the vectra weighs in at 1662 .

could someone please if possible work out what percentage match this would be and maybe give advise if it would be an ok tow ?

at the moment we are using quite an old disco and it would be nice to get into something a little newer

thanks Graham in advance

Graham - 1560 / 1662 is 94% - I've towed at 97% with my Astra - it all depends how experienced and comfortable you are with high towing ratios - if the Vectra 3.0CDTi is automatic transmission, it'll have an unusually low towing limit of 1200kg which would make it a no-no but the manual transmission version of the same car is 1700kg, or thereabouts.

its a manual and the towing limit is 1800 ive towed for a few yrs now and had my time behind the wheel of hgvs so high weights dont fluster me

thanks for your answer

In that case, Graham, go for it.

I tried every way possible to find out from Vauxhall UK and Opel Netherlands if the Vectra Estate 3.0CDTi auto could have it's towing limit increased because I really wanted one and would have imported if necessary - the answer always came back "no, but the manual's much higher".

Enjoy!
