we have recently purchased a 2003 vauxhall vectra 2.2tdi elite and when we are driving everyday without the caravan. no problem but when towing with the caravan and some other items for a holiday as soon as the car is under pressure such as going up a mild incline a warning light comes on the dash and then the car loses power and goes into a protect mode it can be got rid of temporarily by pulling over and switching off the engine but will happen again if put under pressure again the caravan is a lunar premier which is not considered too heavy for our car can anyone help us why this might be happening

Car needs to connected to the Vaux Tech2 or another Fault Code Reader such as the Snap On Reader, a fault code will be logged on the cars ECU, this code will relate to a fault which requires rectification after which the said fault code/s will need to be wiper clear

hi yvonne,we had the same problem with our 2002 new shape 2.2dti vectra when we had it.it had to go back to the dealers numerous times but they never did cure it.in the end we got rid of it because there wasnt a known cure at the time.it had a new turbo, wastegate? and a few sensors changed but to no avail.

at the time our van was only about 1100kg s so the vans weight is not the problem.sorry fior the bad news but hopefully by now vauxhall have found a permanent cure.

dont think the new generation cdti engines are any better,we had the same thing on an 05 vectra aswell.shame really as there a nice car .

hope this helps

I had this problem with an 05 Vectra Sri, car must have been in 5 times or more, they never cured the fault, kept coming back after numerous parts replaced, its nothing to do with towing I was pure motorway with no van on back. I gave up in the end as it was off lease after 3 years. Now have an 07vectra, has done it twice in 2.5 years so that is much better.

Would not buy an old vectra for that reason

Hi,Terry is quite correct in what he has said as we had the very same problem with our vectra2.2dti sxi but had it put right by our local Vauxhall garage and what an excellent car it is for towing our caravan and its very economical too.Jim

thank you for youre replies the car has since had two visits to a garage and a code reader done both times there were faults found such as a leaking pipe the first time and a blown out pipe the second time but the problem is still recurring but only when the caravan is being towed, the last time we had removed a lot of items and only drove a few miles when it happened again. If possibe could jimbob let us know what problem his garage found and has it come back at all,or were going to have to get another car which we wish we didnt have to
