vendee which site ?

can anyone recomend any site in the vendee area. Ihave two boys aged 11 and 7 we are looking for a site with direct access to good sandy beach with or without swimming pool pitches should be a nice size. Not asking for much but nite clubs and sites with over 400 pitches not intrested in ( not intrested in blackpool in the sun ) The drive further south does not bother us as long the sites nice MANY THANKS
 
Nigel - try the municipal site - Camping Des Roses, Les Sables d'Olonne. It's about 1/4 mile from the beach, has it's own small pool and children's play area, reasonable facilities and is within an easy walk of the town centre. Decent size piches too, and they don't mind twin axle vans. You'll need to book early as it does get full very quickly - it's quite a small site with only about 50-100 pitches. No nite clubs/take aways etc, and is certainly not Blackpool in France! I believe they will only take bookings from families. You should find the exact details on Les Sables d'Olonne's web site.
 
Nigel, the Vendee is a great area to visit and you could try looking at sites near to St Giles Croix de Ville, it is a really smashing liitle harbourside town with market. The beaches are good and sites range from the lively to the sedate.

I have been to a site called La Yole (Interner search Camping La Yole) its a Yelloh owned site, on 3 occasions and enjoyed my stay. I am now told that the best touring pitches have been given to the statics, it's an invasion, so check before you commit!
 
Hi, We've been to the Vendee twice and liked Jard sur Mer as a small quiet seaside town ... La Tranche is close and very poular ... pleasant but much more commercialised. We stayed at Les Ecureuils (the squirrels), which was highly recommended in Alan Rogers - the pool was lovely, good shops but I found the pitches a little neat and shaded by lots of pine trees. So in summary great area but if I was returning I would choose another site. Liz
 
Hello Nigel,

Stayed at Du Jard near Tranche-sur-Mer in June and found that the site was not as good as it used to be as the management of the site has changed.

We stayed for 10 days and the grass on our pitch was long when we arrived and wasn't cut all the time we were there. The pool and facilities were very good and the toilet blocks were kept clean. But it is now very commercial with lots of tents and static holiday homes / caravans located on the prime pitches. I will not be returning for the above reasons.

Can't help you with sites to go to but one to avoid is Camping Acapulco. Rhyl with sunshine! Beautiful weather but we were slap bang in the middle of three other campsites, one of which had all night karaoke until 6am and funfare on till 1am. Pool complex looked fantasic but was filthy round the edges and had pieces of mould floating around. Large pitch we booked for our twin axle occupied by someone else and only 10 touring pitches, like being in the middle of a shanty town. Try and check how many touring pitches there are, under 300 usually fine.
 
We have not long retuned from a site called Le Pin Parasol we found it excellent with good size pitches and clean toilet blocks. It had a bar but was in no way noisey as we prefer a relaxing holiday without all the razzmataz. Great pool complex and a lake next to the site great for walks. Only downside for yourselves would be that the beaches were about 8 miles away but there was a large choice of great ones. Hope this helps.
