Vitara 1600 16V

According to the PC mag, the subject vehicle is a good tow car. I have a 1993 Elldis Hurricane (MW 1090kg) which should be a good match, but I have found the vehicle to be gutless on slightest of gradients. Has anyone had experience of a petrol Vitara. Thanks.

This is why it feels gutless

Suzuki and Elddis

The towing capability for the Suzuki Vitara - 1.6 16v (71 kW)

with a Elddis Crusader Hurricane:

Your Elddis is 210 kg too heavy for this car!!!!

Verdict:

The caravan is rather heavy for this car in accordance with a mix of European standards. However, according to the British Towing Code the percentage (loaded caravan / kerbweight tow car)

is 120%.

I had a 1.6 petrol Grand Vitara to tow my Bailey Pageant Monarch which worked well until towing up hills. Always having to change gear on a hill. Changed to a 2.0TD Vitara now have no problems. Able to go up most hills in 5th gear and better fuel economy.
