Volvo S60 D5.

I tow an '04 Abbey Archway Royale 520 4 berth (1250kg MIRO, 1500kg MTPLM) with my '53 Volvo S60 D5 SE auto (163bhp). It's rated to tow 1500kg, but I don't actually carry much weight in the 'van - I'm probably towing about 1375-1400kg. Quite a good match.

But...

I don't really rate it as a tow car! It might be down to the 18" alloys, rubber band tyres, and factory Sportspack (lowered about 1.5") suspension on my particular car, but it never feels 100% stable at speed.

As a comparison, our previous 'van was a '93 Elddis Mistral XL (815kg MIRO, 965kg MTPLM), which I towed both with this Volvo, and our previous car, a '55 Chrysler PT Cruiser GT 2.4 (petrol + 5 speed manual). Although the Cruiser was a much heavier car (1750kg as opposed to 1500kg for the S60), it was only rated to pull 1000kg, as opposed the the S60's 1500kg max tow. The Cruiser towed that little old van like it wasn't even there. The Volvo didn't.

I'll be getting rid of the S60 in a couple of months (for various reasons), and probably replacing it with a Mazda Bongo Friendee 2.5TD auto...

If you need any more info, ask away.

The S60 is really the smaller version of the S80. We have just got rid of this as the rear suspension creaked, no one not even Volvo could sort it and it kept going into safe mode (10MPH)as well.looks nice feels nice but has these sily Ford based quality issues

Really disappointed by what we expected to be a quality car, exspensive to maintain although did 28MPG to Spain with 1400 van in Jan 2008
