Good afternoon, at the mo, I am towing with a Citroen berlingo 1.6d small two berth, but am having thoughts of a Tow bar for the Volvo V60 2022model, anyone have any experience pitfalls rear parking sensor issues etc, any help appreciated

Why worry about parking sensors when reversing a caravan? they serve no purpose at all in that scenario as there's a ruddy great box between them and whatever might get hit.

Agreed - the amount of time spent reversing with the caravan attached is minimal.

My last two towbar fittings would inhibit the reversing sensors. If you use a NTTA service they will offer different makes and types of towbars. I always purchased one with a dedicated harness rather than generic. Some cars require re-coding but the towbar company fitting it should advise. Some may need to be re-coded by a dealership.

Have a look at Witter or Brink websites they will give an idea of what’s available and prices.

Plus one for Clive’s post.
My Touareg reversing sensors are silenced when reversing the caravan. All set up,by my tow bar engineer who did things with the cars software. Don’t ask me but his lap top spoke to Mr VW and all,has worked well formthe last six years.

Do make sure that when ordering the tow bar (regardless of who fits it), you have the circuits for fridge and battery charging included. Get them to write it clearly on the order as otherwise they may not be set up or even connected.

OK Guys this is exactly why I asked the question, as a newbie 14 months to the Volvo, the TB dealership were a little vague as to whether the car wouldbe in conflict, but if you say that rear sensors can perhaps be overwridden then fine!

Cheers

happy Holidays.

My Volvo, V70. Much older than yours, self cancelled the sensors when plugged in. Otherwise, just switch them off.

I had two V90's, both ex-demos.

The 2018 model had a Brink fixed swan neck tow bar fitted and I chose a dedicated PF Jones harness (around £550 all-in). While everything worked (lights, fridge etc) Volvo could not "code" a retro-fitted harness and hence none of the cars towing features were activated. When selecting reverse with a caravan or trailer you had to deactivate the rear sensors (easy enough) or the car thought you were about to reverse into something and slammed the brakes on for you!

The 2022 model I went for a genuine Volvo retractable tow bar and wiring (around £1,100 all in). This was fitted by the supplying dealer and allowed all of the cars systems to work (trailer bulb failure, cancelling rear sensors etc). All well and good BUT I had a lot of issues with the trailer wiring module throwing up "bulb failure" messages when I wasn't even towing!

I'm certain the instructions should be in your user manual.

On my car , the rear parking sensor switch is the one on the bottom left.

Some cars would need the driver to go through a few menus to disable the rear parking sensors - and hope you remember to switch them back on after towing - I'm glad mine are automatic.
