VW Phaeton 3.0 tdi

I have looked through nearly all of the towcar forums and can't find any other reference to one of these cars.

I'm posting here to thoroughly recommend it. Don't confuse it with the Tourag, its not that one. It is actually made on the same production line as the Bentley continental (owned by VW) and is a big luxury car. I have just bought a 3.0 tdi from a dealer and I think I got a bargain. The list price of this car with the extras it had (Digital TV, massaging seats, 19" wheels, etc) is £50k and I got it for £30k. This is because nobody wants to spend that kind of money on 'only a VW'.

If you are looking at a new towcar and think you need a disco, X5, etc type of car, just have a look at one of these instead. Loads to be had from VW dealers. They are offloading loads.

BTW it weighs mega and it has 4 wheel drive.

Anybody else towing with one of these?

we are thinking of getting a Phaeton and would like to ask you how old the car was that you got and what MPG you can get both towing and not towing. Agree its a lot of car for the money.

thanks

Don't know how I missed this, I went to Spain of course.

Carolyn, the car was only 4 months old with 7,000 miles. Owned by VW.

I get about 35 mpg solo on a motorway run, and thats going at speeds around 80-95 mph. Around town it can be quite bad but driven gently you can get 25.

Towing at at an indicated 60 I get 25mpg and at 68 I get 21mpg.

But you are right it is a lot of car for the money.

Scott, thats not true about the mpg. Thats the old joke about rollers and big mercs. Its not at all like that. A Land Rover Freelander which is not uncommon as a desirable towcar can cost up to
