Help. The yellow engine management light has stayed on. According to the handbook it is something to do with the exhaust. Plenty of Ad Blue and no leaks. Engine running fine. Is this a spurious warning or a main dealer only or do you think a local mechanic can sort it. All offers and advice welcome👏👏

A local VAG specialist should be able to advise and take it from there. The one I used for my Skoda had official access to the VAG diagnostic software and carried out diagnostic checks. Services were also entered into the vehicle data record but repairs were not.

PS on my XC70 it was a sensor fault. New sensor sorted it. One of the multitude of emission control sensors.

I had similar with my Peugeot 4007 (Mitsubishi Outlander) some years ago. A friend has his own garage and is magic on the diagnostics. Found loads of historical faults which must have sorted the selves out so cleared them. But it was clear mine was the ERG valve.

So the light is not necessarily a dying engine and expensive repair. ERG valves aren’t that hard to fix depending on their location.

If you have a trusted garage I suggest you get a diagnostic assessment.

A friend of mine with a "Towrag" had a yell ECU light on and it was the fuel cap not venting properly, remove and replace. Try that Dusty.

Unless it’s something startlingly obvious with modern diesels you are best to get a diagnostic check. When I looked at checks carried out on my XC70 it’s surprising how many facets are covered. Similar for my Superb when it’s 4WD Haldex pump failure was spotted during the normal service check diagnostic but then an additional cost to drill down into the 4Wd matrix, and I had no awareness that it wasn’t working in 4wd.

The OP could buy a OBD2 test unit for not a lot of money, plug it in and see what error codes(s) are showing, then look up that code on line. On eBay they go for around the £20-£30 area, just contact the seller first to ensure it can read VW.

The engine warning light is a conglomerate light which will illuminate for quite a few issues in some cases EGR valve and/or DPF issues. It would be useful to know age and mileage of vehicle?

Thanks Woodentop. It’s a 2015 on 46k. According to the VW handbook the light has something to do with the exhaust?

need to think positively into 2021. At least yours isn’t an adblue vehicle. It’s most likely a sensor fault rather than a hardware problem. It’s a relatively low mileage for a DPF to be ash laden as opposed to soot, although previous owners usage profile isn’t known. There were reports that some VAG vehicles suffered EGR faults after being modified after dieselgate but as with a lot of forums you hear of the problems you don’t hear of what goes well. On my Superb there was no noticeable or measurable difference before or after the modification.
The sensor suite is complex to control emissions and the link may give just some idea of what’s involved. One if the reasons we have gone all-petrol and all cam chain too. Roll on all electric eh?

Hi Clive
Mine is an Adblue. That’s all ok. I agree it’s probably a sensor. It’s only used for long journeys ,rarely short ones. My local mechanic will sort it out next week. Thanks for the link.

Had the same with my Touareg. (which I had not used for a long journey for a while).
It was the EGR valve. VW dealer suggested taking it for a quick blast down the motorway. That cleared it and no problems since.
But I suggest you ask the dealer to check whether it is the EGR system before trying the "quick blast."

Thanks for asking. Clive.
Yes, but not what I expected reading the handbook.
My local chap, he came to my daughter’s 1st birthday party, plugged his computer in. 60 secs later said glow plug no 2 was malfunctioning. Next week all six glow plugs will be replaced . My old Sorentos needed 20/30 seconds for the glow plugs to warm up before starting. Today they are virtually instant. Further reading tells me they stay hot , on, until the engine has reached a certain temperature. All about clean combustion and exhaust pollution particles. So yes , mid next week I will be fixed 👍👍👍
