Recently looked at the 6 seater version of the Transporter and was very impressed. Only downside for such a big vehicle it only had a 1.9litre diesel engine. Apart from that it fits our requirements admirably - plenty of room for 6 adults and loads of storage at the rear. Any other caravanners towing with one.

The Transporter comes with two engine choices 1.9 and 2.5 and four states of tune. The 2.5 are 130bhp or 174 bhp. Sorry don't have the 1.9 outputs to hand but they are something like 80 and 65 bhp.

There is also the much rarer v6 petrol model

Hi,

I tow my caravan with a T5 Transported camper a 173ps automatic.

I will say for towing stability and relative performance the combination is a far more stable tow, and superior performance and fuel consumption than my previous, and also highly rated XC70 towcar. The phrase you will not know it is on the back truely applies.

the reason, the vehicle wieght gives stability, the 173ps the towing grunt, and the commercial gearing the long legs and economy. whilst the XC70 always wants to change down at almost any incline, the VW just pulls like a train.
