VW Transprter or VW Touran

I am thinking of using the 1.9 tdipd transporter or the 1.9TDIps

Touran to pull my Compas 505 1400 kg max can any one advise as to the how well a match this this is thanks.

know the dilema,I checked this one out recently,whattowcar.com,got a brill right I wouls go for the higher bhp model,in the end I had to settle for mondeo,price governed

I tow with a VW Touran 1.9TDI 105 bhp. My caravan has a MTPLM of 1430 kg. Towing is excellent. I average 30 - 34 mpg, depending on wind speed/direction, when towing.

Solo, urban driving gives 40+ mpg., and distance driving 50 - 55+ mpg.

I was thinking about getting a touran so I could change our van to a 1420kg van.

What is the kerbweight of your touran?

Hi, Julian. Sorry not to get back to you, but had service provider problems and have had to switch to new provider.

My touran is the 105 bhp, 7-seater with manual gearbox.

The kerb weight (with driver) is given as 1614 kg.

The towball noseweight is 75 kg.

My caravan is 1430 kg MTPLM.

Performance is excellent, and I am pleased with the economical operating costs, solo and towing.

We towed a 1400kg mtplm with a 110hp vw sharan which gave excellent stability but pulling power was only adequate, go for the 130hp 1.9 or the 140 hp 2.0 diesels if you can

Hubby runs a VW Transporter for work,had it three years

done 40,000 miles with no probs.

Only thing he says he would change is engine size.

He has a 1.9td 80hp,evidently very underpowered when towing.

Tried a 2.5,102hp the other day of a friends and is now a bit green.Goes like a train and 35mpg,pulls a senator t/a

with absolutely no probs.

Both vans are 99 models,Ours has done 161k,our friends is a caravelle with just over 200k.

Both have been 100% reliable.
