You have a few cc sites in wales, i think the best is probably Pembrey country park. This site has been discussed loads on the forum. The site is on the edge of a country park, the park has ski slope, horse riding, play ground and you can walk through the park to the beach which is a blue flag beach and 7 miles long you can cycle along the millinnuim coastal path.

From here you can visit tenby in west wales, or the gower, or you are only one hour from cardiff, if you are footie/rugby fans give the millennuim stadium a visit.

hope this helps

Went to CC site at Freshwater East in May, and it was excellent.

The weather helped, but it`s a typical CC site, very good beach right outside the entrance, on the Pembroke coastal path for good walking, near to NT properties, and not overly commercial or busy.

Best holiday of the year and that includes two weeks in France.

Just seems to be a pain to get to from West Yorkshire.

Pembrokeshire is similar to Cornwall in geology and weather.

North Pembrokeshire is unspoilt and uncommercial - go in May for the flowers or September for the seals.

South Pembrokeshire is known as "little England beyond Wales" because the Normans settled there so it evolved just like Norman England. Places like Tenby are commercial but less so than Cornwall.

The CC site at St Davids is well placed to enjoy both coasts. There are some good CLs but some cram SIX vans into a small space, including one that's won awards.

Check your route planner, Pembrokeshire is a long way but worth it!

Hi Jo-Anne

This year we visited three sites in Wales:

1. Coed-y-Llwyn (CC), near Gellilydan in the Snowdonia National Park - just incredibly beautiful scenery, great people and loads to do.

Close to the town of Porthmadog, and the Italianate village of Portmeirion, plus the famous narrow gauge railway, plus so much more.

2. Pembrey Country Park (CC), near Llanelli - on the outskirts of the very popular country park - great if you need to entertain children with a beach.

3. Pencelli Castle, near Brecon on the edge of the Brecon Beacons - this is not a CC site but has won nearly every award, including best site, for several years. Expensive in the summer, but just a higher standard than a CC site. Great pub / restaurant just a stumble outside the site entrance. Good walking on the canal that runs alongside the site, or up in the hills.

Being very fond of Cornwall and Wales I now believe Wales has an advantage over Cornwall. I go through Wales to get to Ireland, that beats both of them apart from not selling pasties ;-)

Joanne, the best way to find out about Wales is to to come here and see for yourself. The best bits, though, are those the tourists never get to, like the forest and mountains just behind my cottage!

Jo-anne I would advise you that if you are interested in south Wales is to look at sites west of Swansea. To the east of Swansea there are a few commercial sites but the area is very industrialised and very little scenery unless you go down the Vale of Glamorgan or up the Brecon Beacons. Stay away from Porthcawl at all costs - the best part of Porthcawl is the road out. The western area of Porthcawl is quite nice and the town centre is pretty good. However the eastern side of the town including Coney Beach and fun fair area is filthy and a disgrace to a holiday resort. I live approx. 7 miles from Porthcawl and I would not take a dog down on to the beach as the sea is dirty. Barry Island is not much better.

Pembrey Country Park is a fabulous area for holidaying if the weather is good as all activities are out of doors. From the CC site it is a short walk into the park which has many outdoor activities such as a beautiful sandy beach, dry ski slope, cycling, horse riding, model steam railway. etc. There is a shop on the park but is very limited for general groceries therefore you will need a car to stock up on food. The fish and chip shop in Pembrey is excellent for take away food. Should the weather be poor you are not far from Swansea, Tenby, Carmarthen or Llanelli (note spelling). Incidentally if you are a member of a local caravan club (not the CC or C&CC) it is possible to organise a rally on the park itself - however the facities for showers/w.c.,etc are not brilliant and there are no electric hook up points. This would be done through the Llanelli CBC. What the costs are for this I do not know,

The CC sites in Pembrokeshire are also excellent sites and generally very close to the beach and not too far from shopping, etc.

Having travelled west of Port Talbot I think you will be very pleasantly surprised what is on offer in south west Wales.
