Wallboard Questions

Hi, we have had our Compass Casita for 3 months now and love it. When we got it there was a very ugly hook in the bathroom attached to the wallboard, in an inconvienient to us place. My husband pulled off and along with it a good section of the wallpaper - previous owners clearly used some sort of adhesive because whilst it looked like the suction type it wasn't.

It now looks really unsightly. So to deal with it I could re-paper the wall - I am quite competent at doing this in a house, but have never done so in a caravan, is it easy? Where do I get the paper from? Can I use any wall paper? Will it look like a bodge? Will it stay stuck up in winter when its cold out? For context the caravan is a 2020 model so this is not a renovation.

The alternative is to replace the hook with another hook to cover up the damage, but my husband wants to use a screw to hold it in - his argument is the mirror is attached using a screw, but I am terrified it will come out the back wall.

Any advice on dealing with torn paper would be greatly appreciated.

Caravan "wallpaper" is a waterproof covering that is applied to the board during the board's manufacturing stage, attempting to replace this with any kind of wall covering/paper will look awful and probably won't last long. You're better off (in my opinion) covering the damage with something else (hook, as you suggest, toothbrush holder, mirror etc, etc).

Could try a picture or mirror (not glass) using an instant grab adhesive, or Command stickers. The latter hold well and can be removed if required.

It’s right between the shower and the sink and very close to the toothbrush holder/cup. A bit of a useless space I think they put hand towels on it but it was to close that you knocked the cup every time

Most caravan fixings are located where there is something specifically placed behind the wallboard to take the load, so be careful about using any screws as you might be screwing into fresh air (or the foam insulation which us just as useless)
A pretty sticker of a fish or similar to hide the damage might be your best option

I have recently removed the wallpaper around the "gallery" section of mine,I have several images of the procedure that I took whilst doing it,,the vinyl layer peeled of leaving a thin layer of paper, taking care I was able to use the remove the vinyl layer to use as at template for rear window, the wallpaper I replaced it with is what is used in commercial premises such as offices,it is 1240mm (4 foot) wide and come on 50 metre rolls,it has a heavy duty paste applied on it plus a thinned down coat on the wall, muratec are one of the manufacturers of it,note you don't need to buy a 50metre roll, although my son doe's when he is building offices. VM I will put some images on shortly,,, Gary
