Doesn't work that way as ALKO require the previous owner to de-register it and not the new person trying to register it. Even then it is a real hassle. Went through that process about 2 months ago when we sold our caravan. A lot simpler not to bother registering the lock.

I think that’s what I said. Billy boy said ebay ones were unregistered. That’s why I said “if they are unregistered what’s the problem”.

I’ve had to go through the process by buying pre owned lozenge and a pre owned lock.

It was the part where you stated "If it’s registered then obviously the registree will have to contact Alko to de register it." that I was replying to. The registree could be the new person or the person to whom it was registered previously.

I think the only advantage of registering the lock is if you lose the keys then you can get replacement keys?

There are a number in ebay. Some are lozenge and lock together, there are others just the lozenge, and with separate Sellers offering locks which fit any lozenge. There’s a brand new unregistered lock being sold by a wildlife charity, who have probably received it as a donation. Ebay have the Buyer Protection Guarantee which as long as all communication is via the eBay system gives buyers their protection.

No, absolutely no security. There are plenty of genuine sellers and plenty of scammers. Impossible to tell which is which. Some ask you to pay via PayPal “Friends and family” Unlike ordinary PayPal there is no comeback if your goods don’t arrive. I have had some bargains from Marketplace and sold some stuff ( including an Alko lock) but it has been a cash on collection arrangement every time.
