Warranty issues need some infomation

if you having problems with a warranty is there anyone i can contact ,the problem that i have i found high levels of damp in my van you have seen the videos on youtube and i know its there and the repair centre are claiming that they have not found the damp i have found not as high but are doing the repair by reasealing the seals and the seals outside are showing cracks and are not fully bonded to the van .who can i contact or is there anyone that can independently test my van i think something is not right and someone is not telling me the truth and are trying to get out of doing the work on my van as the damp being recorded the affected area should be striped back but this would be a lot of work to do .i not being funny but i smell a rat if you know what i mean .
 
As the van is now with the dealer, the matter is strictly between you and them.

One other alternative would be to contact the manufacturer.

I must add that having viewed the videos on UTube I am not at all surprised that the dealer has found lower readings in places to you.

In a lot of theplaces you were testing you were not using the tester correctly, for example by letting the window rubber touch the prongs of the tester.

However, that ,as they say, is another matter which I am not prepared to get into.

it looks like the pins are touching but they are not.i can a sure you i know how to use this meter better than the dealers do .atleast i find damp when they don't !

i think a lot of people are being fobbed off in these services and are not being told the truth when damp is recorded the problem is the persons testing are not pushing the pins in enough they are using then like hovercrafts along the top of the surface which is not giving the correct damp reading and my video proves this in part 4 of my video .

I have watched your recent posts with interest, because as the matter has rolled on, it has very clearly demonstrated that the using these meters is not a simple task and in the hands of a non expert, the results can be very misleading, a position that I have extolled on a number of occasions.

Now to you particular situation. As the customer you can say that you want a second opinion, and arrange to have your own "Expert" do a report. _ the problem is that unless you can find an expert that is accepted by all concerned, then the outcome may not be have the authority you want.

If you seriously believe that the workshop is not performing the tests correctly, then you should ask Trading Standards for advice.

As Damian suggests you could ask the caravan manufacturer to intervene, but that may depend on how you are trying to deal with the matter is it warranty (SoGA) or through the manufacturers guarantee.

Ultimately you could sue the seller under SoGA and let the matter be decided by the courts, but there is no guarantee of the outcome. Definitely seek professional legal advice if you consider this course of action.

Finally, I have to say I am concerned that you may have jeopardised your position by publicising it so extensively in the forum. I do acknowledge that you have not named the businesses involved but having put so much on the internet if it can be attributed to you then it may be seen as a constructive plan to discredit the dealer/manufacture.

I strongly suggest you decline to post further details until after the matter is resolved.

hi would like to say i am not planning to discredit the dealer/manufacture other wise i would have named them by now .and this is a forum so i can ask as many questions as i like .and if these meters are so hard to use why are they on sale to the public its not rocket science to use them its just a bit of common sence and i can use mine when the rest can't use theres .
 
Some of the problem with damp testing is doing the job discretely, so you don't have holes all over the van for customers to see, and this is where customers think the job has not been done, as there is no evidence unless you look in right places
 
in a case like this a second opinion is an option. the only opinion which would be taken into consideration for legal matters is a qualified caravan assessor and not another dealer or repairer. but this independent report may cost in the region of
 
you could also have another dealer approved by the manufacturer perform a water ingress survey and if there report concludes that the readings are higher, then they themselves could submit the warranty claim. but again, you will have to pay for the report.

it may not be worth contacting the manufacturer direct at this stage because it is simply your opinion against one of their dealers. and as it has already been said, although you have a damp meter, you have not had the correct training to perform the survey. no disrespect intended.
 
If you are not happy with the results of the dealers damp testing, perhaps you could ask to be present to observe their retesting of your van.

If you used your meter to check in the same positions as the dealer you could compare results.

You could then discuss with the tester the difference between your tests and theirs,
 
Not to put in possibly a dumb comment but as you state you have high damp readings, have you found any other indications that would confirm these such as wet or mouldy woodwork, damp carpets etc. If the readings are indeed as high as you feel, then it seems possible any damp will appear in other ways. According to my dealer (mainstream) readings over 15% result in double checking after 3 months, readings over 20% are cause for concern requiring remedial work and readings over 30% will lead to structural damage.

You mention cracks in the sealant, but you may not read too much into this. The sealant where it is outside the joint, and therefore visible can dry out in the sun, an show cracks. This does not mean to say that inside the joint, there is a problem. Only by removing the trim and separating the joint will this bee confirmed, or otherwise.

the seal is not the issue here but your right in respect of your question you left ,and your right about the reading chart my readings are over 40% so i need a pair of waders a lighter and some petrol to dry it out , and a good mask to stop the smoke getting in my lungs lmao then it will be fully repaired for good only jokeing ,
