Washing a Caravan on a CAMC site…

it the same at our Seasonal site you not allowed to wash the caravans they have someone who does it for you and at the price I was quoted he quite welcome , but i sometimes wipe the sides,front and back and i am not the only one .

I thought you liked renting cottages so why did you then decide to buy another caravan and to go seasonal with all the extra expense?

I've seen other people get 'told off' for washing units on CAMC pitches

So might be buried in those rules somewhere !

8. Waste water

a. Please collect waste water in a suitable container and empty it at the disposal point provided. Please don’t allow it to overflow.

b. Guests are not permitted to carry out a full scale washdown of their outfit on site, unless there is a specific wash down area. However, we do permit day to day mirror/screen/lights/windows cleaning with a bucket, sponge and very light detergent i.e. to make the outfit road safe, providing the water from the bucket does not get thrown over the outfit onto the pitch.

I appreciate that it is your choice, but not much of a caravan way of life if on a seasonal site? Might as well have a static. I was wondering if there was anything in particular about renting cottages that made you change your mind. Sadly due to medical and mobility issues not even a seasonal would probably be suitable for us.

One big advantage of having your own caravan as compared to a static is that you will not fall foul of the way in which statics are sold and managed. BBC programme showed how badly the static/park home market needs some form of regulation to give a fairer deal to the owners.

One thing with a static might be that you have limited control over costs. The management fees are under total control of the sites owner, if the ownership changes you may be required to sign new contracts with less favourable terms. If you want/need to sell the static it might be through the site at a much reduced valuation compared to purchase price. Lastly many sites have rules governing the maximum age of statics, after which it has to be removed. There are three dealerships that sell pre owned statics. Looking at the asking prices some are cheaper than a tourer and from pictures look in nice condition. One can only ask how they got to a pre owned dealership?

To my mind tourer or seasonal are far better options. If you are able a seasonal can be taken on tour. But being on a seasonal suits a lot of people and I can see their liking for it.

We do miss the freedom of the caravan and renting cottages could be a bit of a hit and miss. The cottage that we rented in June was very nice although it had one or two shortcomings for us, but nothing stopping us going back again. All previous rents have been more than adequate and we would return to all of them.

However the most recent rent in Forest of Dean over past weekend we would not consider renting again although the place itself was nice. Biggest issue to us was very poor 4G signal and no wifi so unable to use any apps on Smart TV, followed by a very soft mattress giving me terrible back ache. A gas BBQ that had not been cleaned in years and nearly blew up in our faces due to a gas leak. Lastly the enclosed courtyard which is what we needed with 3 small dogs was not enclosed and no way of holding gate in place. The youngest dog/puppy was out in a flash and we had to "chase" it down the road. Not pleasant! This has to the first place we have encountered where we have agreed that we would not visit again.

We certainly would not consider a static and are not too keen on being on a seasonal site. Most seasonals in our preferred areas are around £3000 annually excluding EHU in some cases. For that sort of money we can rent about 4 or more 7 day stays around the country.
