Washing machine connection hose - food grade?

I want to replace the water pipes on my van. I got it second-hand, and the pipes are very brown on the inside, algae I think, and 4 soaks with Puriclean hasn't made the slightest difference.

I found about 30 feet of the blue washing machine supply hose, used to connect the water inlet to the mains, and using this up would be cheaper than buying new, and would use up this massive length of useless hose!

I am wondering if it is drinking water grade, I don't want to go through the effort of replacing my pipes only to find out that all my water tastes of TCP!

Thanks!

Hello A,

I think it would be unwise to assume the washing machine hose is food grade.

The washing machine manufacture is not obliged to use food grade hose for thier application, and for cost reasosn would probably not select that grade.

As a domestic appliance engineer I can avise you not to use washing machine hoses for food/drinking use. Dishwashers (where food grade is required) now use hard nylon hoses as do fridges with cold water dispensers. the short answer is don't use it.
