water pump on omega 525 2008 model

Hi, Ive had this van now and Im still not sure if this should do this. when we have the taps on the water pump make a noise like a thudding. this stops when taps are turned off. Is this normal as I was in a friends baileyand the pump was very quiet

Thanks

Trev

There could be several reasons it is noisy....

The pressure switch on the pump needs adjusted

The pump is incorrectly mounted

There is air in the system

The pipes are vibrating against the floor

Which make/model of pump is it?

Does it make the noise all the time, or more when you run water slowly?

Fitting an accumulator could help. Easy to do, costs around

Hi Jennifer ,

I know its a Whale high-flow on-board pump but dont know the model off the top of my mind.

Ive been told thats what they are like but its one of those things that unless you hear another one you never know

Yes, that's true.

If you have checked all the above then there is not much more you can do.

The correct mounting is important, it should be cushioned on rubber bits, not screwed tight to the floor. The floor can amplify the noise.

If the pipes are quite stiff and lie on the floor, that can also make it noisy.

If you don't have an accumulator fitted I would suggest you consider it, it will smooth out the flow and stop any rapid switching off/on, and pulsing of the water.

That was the problem with ours (a FloJet pump) and it made a terrible racket every time it switched.

Sometimes "progress" is not all it's cracked up to be!
