Water pump

Hi all, got a problem with the pump. I have an on board system with a priming foot pump. Foot pump seems to pump water out of the tap, however when I switch the tap on fully and the pump kicks in it just sort of dribbles and pulses a bit. The pump seems very loud and screeches a bit and also cuts out sometimes and the only way to switch it on again is to turn the tap off and on again. I dont really know how the pump should sound as I have nothing to compare it to as this is my first van.

Martin - I am by no means the one to answer but a couple of things I've heard spring to mind:-

1 failure of the microswitch on the tap

2 Is there any water draining out under the van? If so may be a valve open in the water heater?

3 Its a faulty pump.

I'm sure more knowledgeable people will be along presently.

There is no water heater, just a hose from the aquaroll to the priming pump and then to the water pump. its an old van
