Water Pump

I have an Adria 542UK. It has a submersible whale water pump - in to an external aqua roll. The problem I have is that the pump switches on for just asecond occasionally (every half hour or so) - a real pain during the night! I have adjusted the micro-switch within the van as explained in the tech manual, all to no avail. The taps work fine. Any help? I have to disconnect the water at night at the moment!!

Richard,

HI, I do not have the same make of caravan as yourself, but I do have a external submerged water pump, I just turn the external pump switch off at night, switch on again in the morning , the pump works for a couple of seconds to equal the pressures.

It saves the occasional pump working through the night to maintain the water pressure.

Yes it must be almost as annoying as having to keep logging on for a short answer!!

You could fit a switch in the +ve feed to the pump socket if you don't have one already

The Whale "pump-to-van" connection needs "rebuilding" every so often as the hose joint starts to leak very slightly causing a gradual pressure loss which will give the symptons you describe on a pressure switched system.

When rebuilding the connection cut off the stretched section of pipe, about 3cm, and then put it all back together.

Richard, I had the same problem. There is a non return valve which is leaking back to the aquaroll causing the pressure to drop and the pump will cut in. The non return valve is situated in the pressure switch ( where you plug in the submersible pump)

I bought a new complete unit, but you can buy spare parts separately. If you renew this valve, you will find it will solve your problem. I always switch off the pump at night and when I go out for the day, simply because, if a leak developed internally, you could empty your aquaroll into the van.

Regards,

Jim.

Thanks all. I realised that it must be under wattanty, 'phoned the dealer who told me to take the van straight bach. As soon as I arrived 2 fitters jumped in, without unhitching and diagnosed a dodgy pressure switch/NR vavale which they replaced immediately and I was off on my way again. Great service and great help from all on here. Thanks.
