Hi all, I am looking for help as I am new to caravaning. I bought a Swift Accord 440 and am very happy with it, but I.can not get hot water to heat and there is a sort of tapping sound from the switch where the water comes in. Should I change the switch. Can anyone give me advice or help.

Do you have a user handbook with your van? Water can be heated either by gas (if a gas bottle is fitted and turned on) or by mains electric (if you have connected a mains cable and switched on). There will be various switches/controls for the selection as defined in the handbook. What year is the van as a forumite may have the same van and can help you.

Edit - a noisy switch is quite normal whilst water is being pumped.

Thanks for reply so soon, I don't have the handbook and I can use gas for cooker and not quite sure how to set switches for heating water. The van is 19995 I old.

With the van being 1995 it will have a Carver Cascade water heater, most likely a Carver gas fire ,an Electrolux fridge.
If the "tapping" sound is from an oblong unit with a handwheel on the top and is in the cold water pipe as it enters the van and has two wires attached to it, that is the water pressure switch, which needs adjusting to get it to work correctly.

With a van of that age there are likely problems with the water heater inlet as there is a non return valve which gets stuck and it would need a new fitting. Trying to use the hot water system if the tank is not full of water will cause serious damage to the heater.

If you have just bought the van, and presumably have no idea when, if ever, it has been serviced, I strongly recommend getting a mobile engineer to service it and explain how all the items work .
It will save you a lot of trouble in the long run, as well as knowing everything is working correctly for your safety.
