Spent a week there early last month and intend to revisit as soon as possible. Site broken up into areas by trees and shrubbery - a bit like a small scale Normanhurst Court if you know that site. Handy for Scarborough, Whitby and York. Very nice fish restaurant in West Ayton( think it is called Wilsons)might seem pricy but the portions are large and quality excellent. And desserts to die for. The fact that it has a large car park which always seems full says a lot about it.
It's one of the few CC sites we've stayed at. Very nice and quite spacious. The site has storage facility and large playing field for children. Coming fom Scarborough make sure you take the 2nd right turn from the main road to the site. The first right turn will take you in to a narrow road with houses, not suitable for caravans.
Went to West Ayton over the summer. Takeaway fish shop at the bottom of the hill on the main road is not open all week, but was cracking - and the wardens from the site were in the queue in front of me.
This is our annual pilgrimage to Yorkshire and we always stay at this site.
Its such a good location peaceful and a good base for touring, walking etc.
Haven't used the Chippy but the Dennison Arms just a bit further up the road serve a fair meal. There is also a Fish restaurant across the road if you like that sort of thing.
It also has a good Dog walk and a large playing field for the kids with a snooker/pool room. All in all, a very nice site to stay at, will be there again next June.
Hi just to let you know had a lovely few days at west ayton. will be going back next year. we had fish 'n' chips from village chippy; wished we lived nearer as fish was to die for.
hello everyone, can anyone tell me if there is and what the dog walk is like on this site,we have 2 old english sheepdogs, who want to meet and greet people, but wouldnt want it to be a long walk from where van is for them to go to the loo, we are hoping to go on 2nd jan for a couple of days, as couldnt get away on boxing day due to unforseen circumstances. thankyou all, heres to a happy new year.ED
Hi just got back from spending new year there , superb site with plenty of facilities for everyone , not met a friendlier group of wardens/assistants on any site I have been on , didnt try the famous fish and chips but the roast dinner at the Dennison was emormous ,very hot and tasty and well presented how they sell it for
