Whale Aquasource Clear Water Filter - Replacement

I have tried to replace my Whale Aquasource water filter but can't remove the old one. The instructions just say its easy to replace but don't say how to uncouple the old one.

Should it just pull out from the connections or do I need to align it in some way?

Its difficult to get at on the side wall between the fridge and the cooker.

Thanks for any suggestions and my apologies if the answer is really obvious.

The answer is very easy, once you have done it once.

At the end of the connector on the water pipe is a collar which you have to push inwards and pull the filter out, same on both ends.

Replacing is just a case of pushing the filter ends into the fitting, it will automatically grip it.

Thanks for the rapid response Damian.

Is the 'collar' on the connector next to the filter or at the farthest end of the connector?

I can only get one arm at a time into the space to access the water filter as it's very confimed. I have tried both ends of the connector to push on the 'collar' but no luck so far. It does seem to move a little. This probably explains why the filetr wasn't replaced during the last service. It's a pig to get at.

Is there a special tool or technique that might help?

Thanks again.

I've cracked it, Hooray.

Or rather I have sawn it in half!!!

I suspect no-one can understand what the problem has been except anyone with a Compass Rallye 460/2 with a water filter in the space between the fridge and cooker. You need to be a contortionist to access the wall where the filter is.

For your merriment this is how I achieved the most simple of tasks:

1. Remove cutlery drawer.

2. Remove 4 screws holding shelf, which totally blocks access to the filter, then slide shelf upwards. If you feel violent you can remove the shelf entirely by forcing it on its side length.

3. With hacksaw in hand I cut the old filter into 2.

4. Fetch vacuum cleaner 'cos I have just dumped the contents of the filter over the floor.

5. Pull each half of the old filter towards me as I can now easily access the 'collars' with both hands to remove filter. The collars at the filter end are very stiff so I remove the connectors from the pipe (still attached to the filter).

6. I can now get sufficient pressure to remove connectors from old filter.

7. Attach connectors to new filter.

8. Attach filter plus connectors back on to pipes.

9. Test system.

10. Mop up water 'cos I hadn't pushed one of the connectors onto the pipe properly!!!!

11. Correctly push pipe into connector and retest.

12. Halelujah.

At least it'll be easier next year, I hope.

Hi Dave, In my bailey caravan the filter was hidden behind the cutlery draw, I too had a hell of a job removing it, once the filter was removed , replaced the gap with a lenght of the hygenic special pipe .

My last two caravans never had a water filter fitted , what service does it provide, We never drink any water from the cold water system, the start of every trip when switching the cold tap on used to get a deposite of blue crystals in the sink, without the additional water pressure from the filter, the water pump works much more smoother less noise.
