Whale water system

Hello all,

I have a pressure switched water system with the usual H&C mixer in the kitchen and a H&C mixer in the washroom/shower. So why is there a microswitch on one tap (the cold tap in the washroom?)

Further to my microswitch query...I've had problems with my pressure switch all week on a CL that uses a borehole for water. Apparently this water has a lot of dissolved air in it. Could this affect the pressure switch operation? I bought a new pump and still have the problem. It's impossible to set the pressure switch. The pump will switch on OK but the water from any tap (even the microswitched one) drops to a dribble and stops, although the 'pump running' light is on. The pump now increases it's speed (sounds like it's pumping dry) and I have to switch it off at the wall. The site owner gave me a Whale Aquasource to use straight from his tap and everything's fine with that.

Anyone help please?

Do you have an onboard tank? If you have, then there will be a 2 way tap, probably near the pressure switch. When the Aquasource is in place the tap is set to bypass the onboard tank so the incoming flow goes direct to the caravan water system, which appears to fit your situation

When the onboard tank is used, the tap is set to its other position, so that the fill supply is directed to the tank. When the tank is full, the external fill pump is switched off at the (separate) wall switch, but then you switch on the internal/tank pump at the control panel.

Hope this helps

Ron, in answer to your question as why a microswitch on the cold tap in the washroom, it is more than likely that this was the only tap they had when fitting out your van, and didnt bother taking the switch out, just left it in place with the wire not connected to anything.Happens a lot.

Hello Damian & Chris,

Thanks for your response. The tap looks like it's been wired up at the factory using push on connectors and cables into a loom and if I remove the wires from the tap and touch them together the pump will run (without turning the tap on).I can only think it's a safety feature that if the shower starts getting very hot, turning on the cold will instantly start the pump and pull cold water through with no delay but I'm not sure. Since returning home I've run things on my own water supply and there's no problem with all taps responding normally so I guess dissolved air can cause problems with pressure switches? Chris, I don't have an onboard tank by the way.. The CL owner did say he's had the odd problem before. He mentioned the Bailey 2000 series 'vans being prone to it and that was why he bought the Aquasource kits.

Thanks for your input, I hope this helps others.

I suppose that as the air is released from the water it would effectively form an airlock, which I'm pretty sure would stop the pressure from building up sufficiently to activate the pressure switch. On tap sparkling water-now theres a new CL facility!
