What brand tyres are you using?

About to fetch the van ready for the fisrt outing in 2012 and I will be replacing the tyres this week as they are coming up to 5 years old. I will be fitting commercial van (light truck ) tyres as these are more widely available than caravan specific tyres such as Trailermaxx or GT Kargomax and the prices for the commercial vehicle tyres are very competitive. I will be going for mid to premuim branded tyres such as Goodyear, Firestone, Bridgestone, Hankook, Continental. I was wondering what brand tyres are currently being fitted to your new vans, or what have you replaced the OEM tyres with? Just a straw poll?

Mine are Semperit. No choice. They're the only brand available in the size and load index I need, 195R14C106L

Swift fitted that dangerous Matador cr*p to mine. Only 3 years old when one delaminated whilst driving in France.

Replaced them all with Bridgestone

Fitted Firestone Vanhawks as Bridgestone's own site said if you wanted a tyre with extra durability compared to the Duravis 630 go for Vanhawk. They are made in Bridgestones factory in Turkey and having travelled for nearly 2000 miles last autumn in eastern Turkey on some poor roads I am hoping the Vanhawks will see off UK potholes.
One observation in making this purchase is that since these updated tyres will be running off max load I used three tyre manufacturers technical helpline to advise the recommended cold inflation pressure. None responded which confirms my view that the word (caravan) gives the tyre industry apoplexy! In the end Bailey tech dept were very helpful and recently on ATS website I have found tables showing tyre size, load index, running load and cold inflation pressure. Saga over for another 5 year although if we were guided by advice on Continental's website we would be using our tyre for 7 years.

After in 2005 two premature [sub three year old and 10K miles] blowouts with Matador tyres on one trip, and the thrid accepted as 'sub standard' I changed that van to Michelin Agilis tyres.
Current van 2008, has come with Goodyear, but then it was a specific part of our purchase contract that the tyres were to be a 'premium brand', as we were not prepared to put ourselves through that again.
In over 30 years of caravanning these were our only failures, though we have collected a few punctures along the way. They were also our only experience of a non 'premium' brand.
