Its a Caravan Club small site (up to 5 vans) that is certified by the local authority

Hence

Certified Location or CL

The C & CC have CS or certified sites

Thanks John G... what are you doing up at this time? I'm in Northern Spain on a great site just checking the latest caravan info. Sadly after 3 great months touring we are on our way back to chilly UK next week.

Hi Carole

As John has replied, CL is small CC site and CS is small CCC site. Each officially take max 5 Caravans but some don't stick to the rules governing their licences and squeeze extras in...ok if there is space BUT...! The main difference is that CCC allow extra tents on top of the 5 caravans which can sometimes make CSs seem v.cramped. Its quite iritating if you go out for the day and come back to find that tent guy ropes are across your parking spot. We now only use CLs rather than CSs as they seem the more spacious.

Carole we have used both CL and CS over the past 5 years and like everything in life they vary greatly. The Caravan Club has about 2500 CLs but the number is declining. The CC Club has about 1300 CSs and the number is increasing. Both range from a bit of grass with a tap somewhere and somewhere to empty the loo to a well laid out site with hook up and showers etc. Of all we have visited they have all been quieter and much cheaper than both club sites and commercial ones. Folks using them are also generally friendlier. Both are listed in the clubs' handbooks and are members only. At most CSs you can join but not at CLs for some reason.

Try them, it's the only way to decide.

a CL (stands for certified location) is a small campsite excluisive to caravan club members, which takes a maximum of 5 caravans. there are hundreds of CL's across the UK and they are easier to book than sites
