Hi all,

Having recently experienced a puncture, on site thankfully. I had the tyre repaired as a temporary measure. Cant sing enough praise about my KoJack, absolutely brilliant.

I fitted the spare no problem and travelled 150 miles back home, only to discover, I know, I should of checked, I assumed it would be correct, that the spare was a different tyre to the OE ones fitted, the max load was a lot lower @ 600kg instead of 650kg also the max pressure was significantly different, 44 psi for the spare, where the original was 55 psi, the spare WAS supplied by the main dealer.

Quite clearly this is not correct and I need to change the tyres. But what do I go for? My Bailey dealer is quoting £100 inclusive per tyre for the OE TrailerMaxx 185/65/14 6ply Reinforced and a 28 day delivery wait!!!!

I am very safety conscious and want to buy the correct tyres, so I guess you get what you pay for. But even the OE tyres seem a bit close to the mark, max load at 650kg each gives a total load of 1300kg at max pressures of 55psi. My van is a 2006 Bailey Ranger 550/6, MTPLM is 1298kg.

I have read a few threads regarding Matador, Khumo and Hankook aren't these budget brands?!?!? I realise the tyres are only on for 5 years and probably only a few thousand miles, but budget aint for me!

Can anyone offer any advice or recommend a particular tyre and supplier in the Derbyshire area?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Gazza

Hello Gazza,

It should not be difficult to find a tyre of the correct rating. Check with you local car tyre suppliers. If they don't have it in stock, most can get supplies within 24 to 48 hours, or even quicker.

Don't be afraid to bargain - even with the high street fast fit chains. I recently had to replace a couple of tyres on my car, and without even trying I got a further 10% off their published price. Ring round and get quotes, then go to your preferred dealer and point out that you could go elsewhere - it works wonders,

Hi Gazza.

John is quite right, you can get some amazing deals from your local tyre depots. I wouldn't even bother with a caravan dealer.

My local ATS depot was doing a buy one get one free on it's own brabd Matador tyres which ment I got two tyres for my van for under

Hi Gazza,

I was told by several tyre and caravan suppliers that the tyres I needed for my Bailey Senator Arizona are effectively commercial tyres 6ply rated and are a common fit on transit vans. I asked Bailey about the weight difference in the OE tyres and the supplier's tyres and in my case they were fine. If in doubt give them a ring.
