Wheel clamps

Having not long bought a 2014 Elddis Avante 540, I'm looking at getting a good wheel clamp for it. Our old Bailey Senator had a through wheel Alko unit with it which was great but not sure if I could get the same for the new van.

What's everyone's recommendations?

AlKo through-wheel locks are very secure, and of course, much lighter than other designs. You should be able to get a new one but they are specific to the wheel design. Ask your dealer.

If you have a newish van, and obviously yours is, chances are that it will have the Al-ko receiver already fitted. There is no need to buy a new lock, just keep the one you have registered and replace the wheel specific insert at roughly half the price.

Having a twin axle I could not be having the hassle of jacking the van up to use the Al Ko wheel locks and use instead a Milenco wheel clamp. The one with concrete in the legs. I also use an Al Ko hitch lock as extra security and set the alarm when we are out.
I also have a Nemesis wheel lock which is such a pain to fit that I am selling it .

Surely fitting 1 wheel lock is the same as fitting a wheel clamp? I've got a small trolley jack which fits between the wheels, 4 or 5 pumps on the handle raises the 'van enough for the wheels to be aligned and the locks fitted - no hassle.

Doesn't your Elddis sit on a BPW chassis rather than Al-ko?
I'm pretty certain you can get a retrofit BPW wheel lock.
I use the Al-kos on our ta. Jacking up with a bottle jack doesn't take very long.
on our previous caravan we used the very strong Bulldog red wheel clamp. Very heavy but strong.
Sadly it is the insurers who have driven the security requirements because of the thieving chavs.
Your single axle will not have to bring jacked up to fit a wheel lock.Just move her slightly until the holes line up.

We use the Full Stop Excalibur system by Purple Line. This has a bracket that fits at the back and front of the wheel, and then has a bolt and plate that fit into the bracket through the wheel, like the Alko but if you have an Alko receiver on you van the bolt and plate have a thread that matches the Alko receiver so that fits through the wheel as well. It gives a choice of methods.

The Avante will not have an Alko chassis. For some years now I have used a Sold Secure chain rather than wheel clamp and this has been accepted so far by CC Insurance. Chains are much easier to carry, and easier to fit than most wheel clamps. I doubt the chain would survive the most severe forms of attack but then neither would most wheel clamps.
