Wheel fixings

I have read recently in the Caravan Club mag' about wheels, it states that steel and alloy wheels have different profiles within the holes where the fixing bolts secure the wheels to the hubs. My 'van is fitted with alloy roadwheels but has a steel spare wheel. Is it necessary to carry different bolts to use if I need to fit the spare or are the bolts that secure the original alloy wheel OK to use?

Any comments or advise please.

When a car or caravan is fitted with alloy wheels but with a steel spare, it's standard practice simply to use the alloy wheel bolts (or nuts), tightened to alloy wheel torque, regardless of whether the alloy or steel wheel is being fitted.

If steel wheels were standard fit, then different bolts would be needed to go with alloys but I've never heard of using a spare set dependent on which wheel is being fitted.

If owners (or mechanics) had two different types available, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference!
