Wheel nut torque

I own a Lunar Solar
524. Single axle and steel wheels. The Lunar handbook gives the
recommended torque for the wheel nuts as 88 Nm. The service chap
tightened them to 115 Nm. I questioned this based on the handbook.
He referred me to a chart he had (dated June 2012) and said the recommendations
had all gone up. On looking at the chart I noticed that it too said 80
something Nm. He was adamant that he always did steel wheels to 115 Nm,
but adjusted them to 88 Nm.

Can anyone tell me the
recommended torque settings. Safety thing after all.

The torque figure for steel wheels is 88Nm.
Torquing to 115 Nm then "backing off" is stupid, dangerous and a mark of a very doubtful "engineer"
The wheel nuts/bolts should be tightened hand tight at first thenin one smooth movement torqued to 88 Nm and NO MORE.

Not forgetting that some brand caravans have higher torque settings from 2012, as Damian says any decent engineer should know what torque goes with what van, steel or alloy, 1990 or 2013

When I collected my caravan from a very well known dealership in brean Weston, the handover guy went through caravan with me checking this n that, then to my horror checked wheel nuts with a NORMAL wrench, I commented about the torque settings, his reply, ( oy been doing this for over 20 years, oy don't need a torque wrench, Oy know when its tight enough ) I don't think I'll be using there service bay somehow, aaaaarrrrrggggghhhh
