Where to stop off on a journey from Holyhead to Folkestone

Hi, we will be travelling from Holyhead to Folkestone, in July, en route for a holiday in France. My question is this - can anyone recommend a few stops along the way other than motorway services which always tend to be full when we pull into them!We will be stopping overnight near Chester, so I suppose I'm really looking for places to pull off the M6/M1/M25 on our onward journey.Any advice would be gratefully received - many of you must travel those routes regularly whilst towing, we're on them once a year and always curse the fact that "caravan" spaces in the motorway services are full when we arrive or don't appear to exist! So if you have a suggestion for a "caravan friendly" location close to a motorway exit, please share it with me!!

Thanks!

Heather

Hi Heather,

First of all, you may want to change your route a bit - the M6, M1, M25, M20 to Dover seems straightforward - except for the major roadworks at the A10 intersection with the M25 (rebuilding a tunnel).

Probably a better route will be to leave the M6 before Birmingham, then take short sections of the M5, M42, M40 to the M25 and then travel South around London on the M25 - this route should be free of roadworks.

The M40 has a couple of motorway stopping places that don't get as busy as the M6 and M1 services.

On the M20 to Dover, junction 10 has a Tesco supermarket just off the roundabout (2nd exit) above the motorway - by the Tesco fuel station are plenty of double length bays that you can drive in and out easily - but that's only a half and hour from Dover.

Hello Heather ,I find either AI/M6 then A14 to M11 -M25-M20, there are plenty of pullins on A1 A14,Then Stanstead Services is ok before the run to Folkstone. After Ashford i would forget about stopping as all the heavies take the spaces up so Stanstead would be my bet for the last run. Have a great time.
