which cctv system?

we are wanting to put a cctv system in our house so we can have it pointing onto the caravan, however, we do not know anything about them, and was wondering if anybody knew any good brands. it neednt be on all the time, only if someone activated it by motion.

we would also like to record but really we dont know what the best ones are.

does anybody have ideas?

thanks Dave

Dave, we have cctv monitoring the front of our property, as we have suffered lots of damage to the car an dother things.

Unless you are prepared to pay out thousands of pounds, most cctv are mediocre at best, and the images are not really good enough to be used to identify persons very clearly.

However, having said that, we have the Micromark twin cam system, sold in B&Q, which has two very prominent cameras.

They are pre wired, and just plug into a control unit in the house, with a scart lead to the video recorder.

We have a small TV (10 inch) on a shelf in the front room, to which the system is connected, and also to the video recorder.

Night time vision is not very good, unless you install a floodlight, we use a 100watt flood, on a light sensitive switch.

Just by having the cameras, easily visible, they act as a deterrant, and while the curtains are open, people walking past can see they are on TV, and know the system is working.

We set the recorder to record on long play, from midnight to 8am or thereabouts.

Since we have had the cams, we have had no problems, but do smile as some people walk by, and point out the cameras.
