Which ferry crossing?

We are thinking of going to the Vendee next summer.

We have never took the van abroad before and we was thinking of using the Dover - Calais crossing and then having an overnight stop half way down.

We have been told we would be better using the Portsmouth - Caen crossing. It may be a more expensive route but it is much easier for getting to the Vendee.

Which would be our best crossing?

Hi Ross. We've just returned yesterday from that area of France,and we used Norfolk Line, Dover to Dunkerque.Cheaper than most for the 'van(we paid

We have travelled a few times to France.

For the Vendee:-

Dover calais tends to be the cheapest method even allowing for the Petrol / Diesel.

The Journey to and from Calais can take 9-12 Hours depending upon traffic and queues for the tolls!

Try and avoid travelling on a Saturday in Peak season.

Probably the least stressfull way we have experienced is to travel down via Portsmouth - St. Malo Ferry overnight going and day ferry coming back. This meant that we had 3.5 hours drive to portsmouth and just a 3.5 hour drive to the Vendee the following morning ( and just
