It’s not DSG type auto that is used with the ice only version and it’s 7 speed.

Hybrid (hev) and plug in hybrid ( phev) uses a 6 speed AT.

If can get confusing.

I also think it could be expensive buying a hybrid for towing but that your choice to make.

I’ve just recently moved from a 7 Speed Kia DCT auto. It was very nice to drive except in close quarter combat when I had to disengage auto hold to improve its very slow speed manoeuvring but even then the combination of EPB ( on or off no in between) and take up of drive via the DCT didn’t make for a smooth operation. I did say in an earlier post that I’d prefer a combination of manual gearbox and manual parking/handbrake. That drew a degree of ridicule from a representative of Dyfneint. 🙈

Hybrids are plagued with manufacturers' marketing departments making up names for their system rather than using industry standard terms.

Most people seem to understand the difference between hybrid and plug-in hybrid, the difference being whether you can plug it in to a charger or not - but Toyota clouded the issue by calling their hybrids "self-charging hybrid" and Nissan seem to dislike admitting their "range extender electric".

There's also a whole raft of different 4x4 systems in use, especially when you get into locking differentials and electronic thrust vectoring - I know exactly what my VW Touareg has got but I defy anyone to put it into a single, simple category.

Most tow vehicles will do majority of there mileage unladen on commuter run so hybrid makes lot of sense.
Some PHEVs actually have bonus feature which makes them ideal for caravanning. A 230V outlet with 10-15kwhr battery. That can be days of offgrid camping with caravan powered off 230V from car. Use 230V for heating and it might be just one night. That is before you recharge battery by running car or visiting EV charging station.
Same can be said for EVs.

It was cheaper to buy the hybrid with 230 ps than replace my Tiguan 190ps diesel.
