Which is the Best Air Awning.

Can anyone please advise on which is the best air awning to buy regarding quality, lightness and the ability to detatch window panels to make it easy to thread through awning rail.

Looking for one with the 3 front windows aound 390 in length.

I remember Kampa used to be ok but have seen some called Vango but dont know much about them.

We are not getting any younger regarding having to thread these through awning rail so we have sriously been considering getting the Fiamma Caravanstore 3.6 with the Fiamma Privacy Room cs light 3.6.

Im leaning more towards the Fiamma set up.

What is your views on both.

Yes still in Australia but have just bought a 2010 Swift Challenger 570 from a UK dealership and having it containered out here so getting some accessories together to placed inside the van before shipment.

I have a Kampa Air Pro 330 and it is heavy to erect so I too have been looking for lighter alternatives such as those made by Fiamma so I shall watch your thread with interest.

We've the Kampa air pro 390 - only 2 big windows on this years model vs last years 3 smaller.
We looked at the vango ones and settled on the kampa because of the single inflation point against the Vango having separate ones and cross poles to insert. Sunncamp ones were the same.
I'd agree with Dodger that they are quite a hefty beast to pull through the awning rail but it is do-able on your own.

I did consider a Quest/Westfield roll out awning which is a cheaper alternative to the Fiamma and comes with side/front panels which you can have in different configurations to suit. I was just really put off by having a big weight on the awning rail whilst travelling given awning rails are one of the failures that can let damp in.

We have a Vango Rapide 350 and are pretty impressed with it. It came with our caravan and there are fit issues - but that is nothing to do with the awning itself - more the match up. I'd happily have another Vango as I feel you get a decent awning and a great selection of included bits and bobs other manufacturers charge extra for.

Our Gateway 390 Air, mentioned in another post, has 3 windows in front, 2 with flyscreens so can open windows for ventilation, middle one can be opened and used as door, end panels zip out, and curtains are built in so do not have to be added,an air annexe is also available for approx £100, you should be able to find information by using GatewayLeisure in search engine, oh it also has 2 windows in the roof.

We bought a Dorema Futura 330 this year..... it's a little more heavy weight than the Vango. Getting it in the rail is the most tricky part - but that could something to do with the newness.

It seems to go up pretty quick; has doors/ windows on the front and sides; a roof liner and mesh to zip into the the windows. Seems to be well made - only criticism is that the valves for the air would have been more accessible on the outside. Whatever one you get and electric pump makes life a lot easier.

I forgot to add we also bought some zip-in sleeping pods for the awning too.

So we've ended up with a tent (again) with a caravan attachment!

Anyone any experience of either the Vango Kalari 520 or the Kampa Rally Air Pro 390 Plus?

Having experimented with our Ventura full awning which came with the van, I've decided I need an air awning for quick pitching on Friday nights. Pretty much got it narrowed down to those two.

The Vango looks great but the left hand edge would go right over the external locker where my barbecue point is, rendering it unusable. Not necessarily a showstopper as I have a portable charcoal bbq I could use. I've always had Vango tents, in pretty extreme conditions in the wilds sometimes, so trust the brand. The Kalari seems to come with pretty much everything included bar the carpet too, and Vango offer a 3 year warranty if you register it.

The Kampa looks ideal as the extension, which would cover my locker, has a zipped edge which means I could still access the locker. However - almost everything on the Kampa (e.g. guy ropes which I would expect to be standard!, roof lining, limpet points to fix to the van) is an extra, which I find pretty annoying. It also comes with only a 1 year warranty which doesn't imply they have great faith in the quality of their product.

So even though the Kampa is probably a slightly better fit, I'm coming down on the side of the Kalari. Be interested if anybody has any actual experience of either (or the brands in general, quality, reliability etc).
