Hi Billy,

This is the 1,000 dollar question. At the end of the day it down to what you are most comfortable with. I am a member of both and my vote would go to the caravan club. However i will try and give some pointers.

I would say that the caravan club have more and better hardstanding pitches than the Camping & Caravanning Club and overall their sites are of a higher standard. Not a lot of difference in site fees during peak season but outside that C&CC have deals for Familes and over 55's, also they only have three price bands against 4 for the CC. Both clubs offer insurance products, financial products, overseas travel etc and issue a monthly magizine.

Hope this may be of some help.

We use both CC and C&CC sites and prefer the CC ones most of the time though there are certain C&CC sites which we visit regularly.

Our adult son is in his 20's and disabled and the C&CC give him a special membership card which allows him to come with us free of charge as he is unable to holiday without us. We asked the CC club if they also provided this very helpful service but were told they do not.

You have to re-apply for the card each year when our membership is due for renewal

We're members of both but prefer the Caravan Club sites. They just feel a little better quality and better cared for.

We have stayed at a couple of C&CC sites and , in my opinion , becuase they cater for tents they seem a little more choatic. They had tents and caravans intermingled and tenters seemed to just pitch where they liked.

(former) Tenters please dont have a go , as I say just the way I saw it , I have nothing against tents as I used to camp myself in my yoof

Bottom line go for the site with the best facilities for your needs , thats going to be more important.

Hi Billy

Like everyone else who has posted here we are members of both clubs. They have different coverage of the country. I agree with William that the CC sites are better especially outside high summer as the toilet blocks are heated and usually have privacy cubicles too.

My husband is over 55 so gets the discount with the C&CC which can make as much as

Hi, i am a member of the cc only.

one of the reasons i didnt go for the c & cc is because they allow balls games the cc dont only on a field if they have a play field. swing ball is okay though ( as far as i know).

this might seem silly but like most of us we paid alot for our caravan and car and if anybody children put a dent in my car or van i would be really upset but also i would have to pay the excess of my insurance.

we are in our mid-late 30's. we have 2 children both special needs aged 6 and 14. My 14 year old is also registered disabled.

the cc pitches ,most of them are very generous in size and the facilities are second to none.

the disabled facilies are also very clean and have easy access.

also with the cc if your son has a disabled badge ring the site and tell them and they will put you near to the toilet and shower block if you want and then your pitch will be reserved. if you dont ring them then you can choose your pitch when you get there.

i hope ive helped but cc all the way for me.

Jo-anne, what gave you the idea that the C&CC allow ball games? They most certainly do not, and I have on various occasions witnessed site managers racing over on their bikes to stop them!

I think you are missing some of the very best parks across the UK.......why not have a look at Best Of British parks - see us at www.bob.org.uk

We are all independantly family owned 5 star quality parks, with a huge choice of location and budgets.

Part of the problem here is that the C & CC club has been condemned by a few that have stayed on, well, 'a few' sites....

I'm a member of the C & CC and the sites I've stayed on so far have been great. Heated showers, plenty of room. I actually think it's good to see tents too - adds a different dimension - a different type of person. Also makes me glad that we're in our van when I see them struggling with their guy-ropes!

Having used the 'Best of British' sites - they're great. But VERY expensive by comparison.

Quite right, Mark. Many people seem to prefer the neatly lined up rows of vans that come with the hardstandings on CC sites. To my way of thinking, that is not a very relaxing atmosphere in which to spend your leisure time. I much prefer the slightly more casual layout of the C&CC sites. The 6 metre rule is always strictly enforced, so there is still plenty of space between you and your neighbour, but not being arranged in precisely straight rows suits me much better. It really is very much a case of personal preference, not of better or worse.

When we started we joined both clubs to experience both. After 12 months of using them equally we chose the C.C.

The C.&C.C. do have some nice locations, like Rosemarkie and Winchcombe, but the sites have a run down, tired feeling about them and also Hitlerite wardens as at Winchcombe.

The only site that I've come across belonging to the C.C. with "neatly lined up rows of vans that come with the hardstandings" that chrissie mentioned was at Bunree, an Affiliated site, but that was done for a reason, so everyone had sea views although I don't think it looks nice.

I would`nt say there is a "best" I think it`s all down to which you prefer, in my opinion both clubs are good each have their ups and downs and it all depends on which suits your needs.

Mark, I must have been unlucky as in 10 years of C&CC membership I've never come across a heated toilet block. Like you I don't mind tents either.

We've stayed on both. Personally we tend to go to CC sites. Just a personal preference. However one of the biggest factors, for us, is the quality of the wardens. Up until recently we frequented a local CC site. The Wardens changed soon after Christmas and there has been a definite negative effect on the site. The site comments book bears witness to this.
