Thank you all for your help, i think we will wait for the new sorento, then decide between that and a Land cruiser!

Thank you again, Andrew & Sally.

The self levelling suspension was an integral part of the Sachs shock absorber. The shocker will always return to the preset height irrespective of load. It on starts working as the Sorie moves causing the shocker to pump up. It does not have an external pumping system like some vehicles. Have a look at Sachs site for a full explanation.

Andrew and Sally,

I was reading Top Gear in the dentist yesterday and noted the Sorento was voted 18th out of some 150+ cars. The Disco was 124th! In fact apart from those 4x4s not tested no other tug beat the Sorento.

Cheers

Makes you wonder if the sachs shockers could be retrofitted to other vehicles? Bingo instant self levelling suspension.

Cheers

I am not anti 4x4, and they do have their uses, but in reality the majority of caravanning can be achieved very successfully without 4 wheel drive.

There are a number of large MPVs that will cope with virtually any caravan available in the UK. They offer better ride comfort, more seating options and load space, with lower operating costs.

Could these be a viable alternative ?
Hi all...

I run a landcruiser...(Toyota Colorado actually)

i drag a compass Rallye 640....

this beast weighs 1900 kgs :)

what option do i have but to drive a big 4x4 to drag this caravan....and its not massive..its only a twin 4 berth...just made dam heavy ...

When it comes to large 4x4s, no one seems to have mentioned the good old Nissan Patrol. I bought a brand new Kia Sorrento in 2005, it broke down every time I towed with it and almost put me off caravanning forever. I swapped it for a Patrol and would never consider changing.
