which polish?

What material are you trying to polish? Painted aluminium or GRP plastic panel?

You'll need a different polish for each surface:

The paint finish on a metal panel is very thin - so nothing too abrasive.

If the GRP surface has aged, then you'll need to remove the chalky layer with a cutting polish.

Having polished the surface, then wax it to seal in the polished surface - it's a two stage process.

Products: Any of the premium range products from Autoglym, Meguiars or TurtleWax

my dad uses mer and swears bye it.

I use autoglym products and only have to do my van once a year compared to mers twice, yes mer gives a good shine but it does not last as long as autoglym products.

Use autoglym caravan and motorhome cleaner to wash the van then use super resin polish to get the paintwork back to new, super resin has a very mild cutting action so will not damage sound paintwork.

your van will now look like new and feel very smooth compared to a dirty van which will help your mpg.

If like me you like your van to look its very best then top of the resin polish with extra gloss protection, its well worth the effort and the van will be almost dry even after the heaviest of rain fall.

Autoglym products can be used on all the van including the front and back plastics but not on the windows as the light abrasive will scratch them, for the windows i use fenwicks acrylic window polish, this is quite expensive but it removes all the fine scratches from washing and driving.

I also use Autoglym Super Resin, and then give it a coat of Autoglym After Gloss Protection and only polish off after the 30 minute recomended time. I only need to this once a year with the occasional wash if it looks dirty.

i'm a valeter and later this week am applying a new product for a caravan dealer called supagard, you may have heard of supagard for cars ( recommended by 22 car manufacturers), but this is a brand new product for the caravan market, it protects your paintwork by coating it in a high tech microfilm that bonds to your paintwork and repells uv rays aswell as preventing the accumilation of grime. Also theres a interiorgard which is similar to scotchguard, prevents spills from penetrating into the fabric and staining, spills just wipe off with a damp cloth. It also comes with a 3 year guarantee. you can't buy it in the shops as it needs to be applied proffesionally, if anyones interested i'll send you a info pack and price list

Mathew, i had my type R supaguarded when i bought it from new. I paid 350Quid and i must admit if it had been put on properly it would have been ok. In the front of my car i have red/black Recaros and these had what looked like streaks on them from the supaguard. Also they applied it to the windows and this has caused like faint splattering marks when the sun is out. Inside also on the door skins you can actually see where they have missed plases.

So never again will i use this product.Your the valeter so tell me what you think?

Using wax and some polishes leaves a soft surface on your caravan or car and it gives dirt and black streaks something to hold onto. Hence the reason you have to buy a black streak remover to remove both streaks and wax or polish.

If you use a product like kemdirect shampoo you put on a shiny glossy layer which does not allow the black streaks etc to attach themselves to it and you only require the one product.

We were given products from a company called Duragloss.

The polishes have a cult like following from US custom and classic car and bike enthusiasts. The RV products used on our cars and caravans are really super. We use "Duragloss Marine & RV Black Streak Eliminator", "Duragloss Marine & RV Polish Cleaner" and simply the best for bugs and tar spots has to the "Duragloss Bug Remover". Three weeks of French bugs and some tar on the car and caravan gone in a few minutes, just spray on and leave for a few minutes and then wipe off!

There is a complete range of products and any classic car owners who need their leather upholstery treating should find the products very good as some pro restorers now favour the leather treatment products.

Autoglym was are regular polish until we tried this range on the advice of a classic car exhibitor.

We are not connected in any way with either Duragloss or the seller, just well pleased having a good product that is quite well priced even with mail order costs.

Hi all

I have just purchased from www.miracledrywash.com and am waiting delivery. The comments on their website seem very genuine, and also very impressive.

If anyone wants to know how I get on I will reply accordingly.

Cheers

Have previously used Mer, but found the results slightly disappointing (left too many streaks for my liking). having just finished washing my 'van down, paying particular attention to the roof, I will be polishing it later with Autoglym Super Resin - no better polish in the world IMO. Have used it for 20 years and will never use anything else.
