Sorry Practical Caravan are also running a 2.2 Outlander, not a 4007, but it is mechanically identical.Michael
What weight / size caravan are you going to tow?
We have just bought a 4007 SE Irmscher and the towing credentials look good and it has had good write ups from Practical Caravan, Which Caravan and CC Tow Car of the Year (the last two are based in the Mitsubishi Outlander).
We have not yet towed with ours, but when I do, I will write a full report.
My out fit currently is the old sorrento 2.5CRDI the van is the Lunar lexon SE single axle 1437 fully laden weightSorry Practical Caravan are also running a 2.2 Outlander, not a 4007, but it is mechanically identical.
Thanks for this, i,m in Cheshire and phoned a local tow bar fitter today who has quoted meHi there,
Not sure what part of the country your in but as for the towbar fitting,
We fit towbars for a living and I am contracted to the largest Peugeot and Citroen dealer in the area.
Our dealer doesn't worry about bespoke electrics for the vehicles,we mainly use standard bypasses and switching relays.
We have found these to give less reliability problems than the bespoke systems that are on the market.
By the way, average charge to the dealer is @ 450 for twin or 13 pin socket and detachable Witter.
Hope this helps a bit.
Hi Mikey, thanks for the comment. I phoned a local towbar fiter today who halved the price of the towabar and fitting straight away, so i'm going in tomorrow to see if he can justify the price they are charging. He also said that they were fine with the alko stabiliser so thats put my mind at ease a bit. Cheers MichaelDetatchable towbars have enough clearance for the alko hitch so thats not a problem.
As long as you fit a Peugeot approved towbar and electrics (which all the manufacturers are these days)then its not an issue.
You can easily half that cost
Michael, a thread after my own heart. I have just ordered a new Santa Fe Premium after having weighed up just about every option available to tow our 2005 Odyssey 524 (MTPLM 1450kgs)
The Peugeot does have issues with the dual mass flywheel (DMF)as does the C-Crosser and Outlander variants. Peugeot now offer an auto which may help.
The Sorento is very nice but more lolly than the SF although trim levels aren't equal as far as I could see. I think the premium falls between the KX2 and 3 but don't quote me.
I also looked very longingly at the Skoda Superb 4x4 Elegance Estate. It is a fantastic car but at 1669kgs kerb weight and noseweight limit of 75kgs, I felt that the SF had more ability as a towcar.
With the new R type 2.2 Lt diesel engine/6 speed box (manual), the SF has loads to offer. 194 BHP, 422 Nm torque, 40+ MPG, 2500kgs towing capacity (wouldn't want to try it) and 100kgs noseweight.
Having signed on the dotted line, I'm convinced I've made the right choice. It offers a 73% match to our van with all the bells and whistles to keep a boy happy and a 5 yr unlimited mileage warranty. It's just great value and Hyundai have a
Hi Dianne, we have a 2006 Sorento at the moment but was thinking of changing to the new shape one, but the only problem is they have put the prices up quite a bit so to get my model with everything on it that i have i'm payingWe have an 8 metre long, heavy caravan and tow it with a 2005 Kia Sorento XS it tows like a dream and has done 3 over 4500 miles trips round Europe with no problems at all. Can really recommend this 4x4.
Well alas I bought the puegeot! Have agreed with dealer forBeware the 4007 must have a detachable towbar or you will not be able to lower the bottom part of the tailgate. My ex Peugeot uk car has a brink removable bar and twin electrics with Peugeot badge on them.
Well ordered the puegeot hope I will enjoy happy touring times aheadMichael
