We are going to Leicestershire on Thursday so phoned today. In the light of the weather forecast I was amazed to hear that the super pitches were all booked. Not being used to comfort I very happy to book a standard pitch. It is forecast to be cold with snow on Saturday so who are the other lunatics going out? It will be a test for the new (to Me) Alde heating.

We don't find the crisp cold and snow the challenge, it is the very wetting "misty" weather that we find so depressing to be out caravanning in.
Indeed on a lovely sunny bright winters day a caravanning break is a great spirit lifter in the winter.

If our experience of a well designed Alde installation is anything to judge by it is as good as it gets for van comfort particularly if adopting its built-in timer programming.
Have plenty of gas so if you need to lift the van temperature you can operate on both electric and gas til the electric can hold its own.

Was up at the yard yesterday cleaning ours for this weekend down to teeside , white water park c&mc site , cheap weekend as we have £15.oo vouhers so only costing us another £17.oo for the weekend . Took all the awning stuff out yesterday whilst cleaning it , didn't realise how much weight was in the actual awning, the poles and the bag of rock pegs so thats an extra few mpg i'll be getting !!
Enjoy
Craig .

Enjoy your weekend in Leic's Waffler, we are off to Kingsbury C&CC site.
If it's Conkers you are going, don't be disapointed about the super pitches, Numbers 40/41/42 at the top make better use of day/sunlight this time of year.

Our caravan is in the workshop, hopefully losing the damp and a few other things so no trips out until we get it back.

Have you tried Eye Kettleby Lakes near Melton Mowbray. Never used it myself, it's only two fields away from us.
SWMBO has had a couple of meals in the restaurant on a girls day out, says it's lovely.

In response to Otherclive we’re going to Eye Kettleby lakes. First time on site although we have used the clubhouse. Big adventure for us using a commercial site! Will report back. Anyone else there this weekend please speak. (13 plate silver Sorento.)

Thanks. There are some very nice commercial sites and we have started to use them more in winter as being private they are open 12 months. We recently used one outside of Warwick as CMHC were fully booked and it was every bit as good as a main club site and reasonable price too. Our early January and March trips to Cornwall are private sites. So looking back it seems that its CL/CS in nice seasons and private in winter mainly because the 12 month club sites are booked up too far in advance for us, and there aren't too many where we want to go in winter. Enjoy your outing.

We spent last weekend at Fairwood Lakes Holiday Park near Westbury to visit the Bath Christmas market. It was a little chilly but nothing that a Truma gas heater couldn't sort out in a few minutes :)

The site is operating a Santa's Grotto in a marquee throughout December (and you don't have to be staying on site in order to visit). The owners gave us a preview and it's awesome - borrow a child if you don't have your own and go and have a look!

Our next trip will be to Edinburgh for the Hogmanay celebrations, which will be followed on New Year's Day by a freezing dip in the Firth of Forth. I think we're either very brave or very foolish ....

Off to York (Rowntree Park) next Wednesday for a week. We were there in 2010 when it never reached positive numbers temperature wise, and the site was less than half full, something I’ve never known before (or since!). Lovely and warm in the caravan though!

We had a brilliant stay at Eye Kettleby. 3 pitches vacant on a 60 pitch site on Saturday night. Fire bucket iced over but pump was OK. (The forecast was for 2 degrees so I left the pump out!!!!) Lovely clear weather and some good sunshine with a bit of rain/snow overnight. Leicester on Saturday to visit the Richard 111 centre. This is adjacent to the car park where his remains were found and is a good visit, especially if you watched White Queen on the telly. Rutland water nature reserve on Sunday was good but some one left the binoculars in the car!!!!!!!! She only mentioned it about 4 times when we couldn't identify much. The alde heating was excellent. Chester Fair Oaks is our next trip on 11 December.

Come January, my wife is off to visit her sister for 2 weeks.

I hope I can make a trip to a very windy and bitterly cold and inhospitable glen that I frequent (beats me why I keep going back because there is no certainty that I will get out when I decide to leave.),

It is the wonderful views of the stars and the milky way in a non-light polluted sky that really attracts me.

A wee dram or two sustains me through any unexpected or prolonged forced isolation
