We have recently bought our first caravan after having a trailer tent for 12 years. I spent ages on the internet looking at insurance and finally went with the Caravan Club because it seemed the most straightforward. I found so many issues with other companies regarding security products, storage, exclusions etc. I gave up. We had to become members first but we received lots of useful information and have extra choice when choosing sites.
Hi Alan the cover is as good as CC cant comment on claims as so far not made one. They do different types Gold cover and Silver cover you do need two kinds of security ie wheel clamp and hitchlock they are cheaper than cc but policy cover looks the same
I have also found the caravan club insurance to be a bit expensive, but since we all have different 'vans and requirements the quotes will be different. I found Adrian Flux to have the best prices for us. It certainly pays to get several quotes.
The CC used to place all its insurance business through a brokerage firm called Devitts. Devitts in turn were part of the RBS Group. Devitts placed the cover required with Insurance Companies. I used them for many years but changed as I felt they were giving poor service at a very high price. However, I believe that the CC has changed the way it operates this side of its business so cannot offer any current comments.

When I last checked the CC insurance prices they gave a discount if you'd been on their towing course. Seems strange that an LGV licence or years of towing experience count less than a one day course that the CC sell. Don't see how the course can make your van less liable to be stolen. Still, if it gets people to go on towing courses it can't all be bad I suppose.

Scotch lad is quite correct that the CC insurances are organised by Devitts the Insurance Broker who in turn share a substantial amount of the commissions with the CC.
The CC policy is shared underwritten between four Insurers, lead by Axa and Norwich Union etc.
The CC policy won the Caravan Winner for Insurance Award 2008.
Also Insurer of the Year.

I see that Discover Leisure is now doing caravan insurance and you can get a quote on line.
We use Caravanguard and have been very pleased with them, and they we very helpful when we made a claim.

Yes I'd noticed that. I used to belong to the Camping and Caravanning Club and went on one of their towing courses years ago, but that doesn't count as far as the caravan club is concerned.
ps Im insured with NFU.
I think Allyson has hit the nail on the head, none of us knows how good their insurance is until we have to make a claim. I haven't ever had to make a claim (touching wood, fingers crossed, throwing salt over my left shoulder etc) so I don't really feel qualified to make any kind of recommendation other than on price.
This brings me to Paul's reply to my reply, if you see what I mean. I'd be interested to know more Paul, you obviously had a bad experience, was it to do with a claim or just in general.

After 30 years towing ( all insured with the CC )I made my first claim last year. A large french tree leapt out and ruined the rear panel of our caravan. The claims procedure and repair were all handled quickly and professionaly. I now believe I can recommend the C C for insurance. Until you need to make a claim you really do not know.
