Hi all,

I am William and along with my wife Alison and son Alexander we enjoy caravaning all year round, mostly at rallys organised by the Ulster Centre for the Caravan Club. We started with a 4 birth 1993 Compass Reflection Merit and in December 2008 bought a Bailey Ranger series 5 510/4 end bathroom van.

Hi Sam and Everyone

A great idea to introduce ourselves. Well done Sam for starting it off.

I'm John and with my wife Jane have been caravanning for about 22 years. We live at Chellaston on the south side of Derby. We have a 2008 Abbey Vogue 460 that we pull with a 2006 X-Trail.

We don't get out as often as we would really like. Having said that we had almost a week at Chatsworth in February, are off to the Yorkshire Moors (West Ayton) in April for a week, Scotland for three weeks in June, a long weekend in Derbyshire in August and Longleat for a week in September. These are just the pre-booked breaks !!!

We usually go to France for about three weeks in early summer but have decided against it this year in view of the exchange rates.

We like to see many different places so haven't been to many sites (CC) more than once so have clocked up nearly sixty different ones so far, not counting CLs.

I have a look at this forum on most days and have picked up lots of tips and info and like to think I, in turn, have passed on some of my experiences and thoughts.

Enjoy your caravanning everyone.

Regards

John M

What a coincidence! My wife has been tracing her family tree and found that her great-great-grandfather set up, with his brother, a pottery (Thompson Brothers)in Woodville (or Wooden box as it was originally called). Sadly he left the business just as it started to make money so she hasn't had any inheritance. All say aaarrrhhh. You are not related to the Thompsons or the Woodwards by any chance are you?
Hi Michael,
This is off subject and apologies for this, but I am related to the Thompsons...married to a descendant of Joseph Thompson. Would love to talk to you about this. I'm only new on here so I'm not sure whether to leave my email address or what. Perhaps the moderator could help out. I'm happy for the moderator to pass on my email address to you if that is possible. I'm not a local, live a bit further afield. Many thanks

Hello Sam - my name is Lisa and my OH is John. We thought about buying a caravan for 4 years and took the plunge last September and our (then) 18 month old Swift Challenger 570 was delivered this January. Since beginning of March we have been out 48 nights and next weekend will make it 50!!! We absolutely love it and wish we'd done it years ago. My son Luke is now 16 so we tend to go away the weekends he is with his Dad (there is only so much Monopoly I can play) but we are due to go away next year for 3 weeks with him at various times, then I think after that he will want to stay at home! We stay on CC sites mainly at weekends but for our weeks away, tend to go for independent sites and have booked for Easter, May and a week in July and August already as I work in a Primary School and I've learnt that school holidays book up fast! I also learnt that the earlier you book, you tend to get it at a cheaper price before their prices rise in the new year. Fave sites are CC sites at Cirencester, Broadway, Moreton-in-Marsh, Pembrey and Tredegar. Doesn't matter if you're 5 miles from home or 500 ... you're not at home and so you have no option but to relax. Well done for starting this thread and welcome to this lovely, friendly forum. xx
