Winter Cover For Aquaroll

Just about to cut up an old sleeping bag but decided to check on-line sales of bags to help insulate the aquaroll. (We are away over Christmas in the Van and have been for many years visiting family. However, so far no real freezing conditions but suspicious this year we could be caught out!).

At around £18 delivered the on-line bags will save a lot of messing around with sewing sleeping bags and devising a waterproof cover for the whole bag of tricks!

Does anyone have any experience with the on-line insulated covers please? They don't look particularly substantial.
Are they waterproof or do they get soggy and heavy if it rains? (Yes, I know no need to use if raining but could easily be caught out)
Do people take something to stand the aquaroll on - ideally a bit of polystyrene insulation I guess.

At under £20 seems hardly worth the messing around to make our own. And no we don't have an old padded jacket we can use.

I cannot see which ag this is but these should be waterproof. I doubt a cut up sleeping bag will be though.

I have used the green Aqua roll covers, only twice have we really needed them, France in January for a month of snow, and at a site Home Farm , near Ivinghoe Beacon, for a week. They worked very well, I put the grey pipe insulation around the pipe to the van and then the green sleeve all stopped freezing.
They don't seem to get wet, must have some sort of waterproofing, ours are over 12 years old now. They do have a base of the same material, but I have just left them on the ground.
The shower waste froze , and had to use Mrs B's hairdryer to thaw it out, so now I pour a drop of Antifreeze down the waste pipes at night.

It would take a substantial period of sub zero temperatures to freeze the 40+ litres in an aquaroll. The feed pipe from the aquaroll to the inlet point is however vastly more vulnerable to freezing, so thats what I would concentrate on protecting. Either that or just keep about 5 litres of water in the caravan for tea's etc and use the facilities in your relatives house.
We often have family staying, when decamp to the caravan but still shower etc in the house which saves having to worry about water.

As we no longer use the caravan in the winter, our aquaroll insulation is in the shed. As Mt Plodd states, the inlet pipe from the barrel to the caravan is probably the only one that will freeze. Your biggest issue is the water pipes on the site not freezing and secondly make sure you empty the waste master every night. If that freezes with some water you will have a headache.

The site is a very basic CL. We simply drain all grey water into the brambles etc behind the van.

Only issue is the pipe for the aquaroll but yes, freezing water taps on site could be a problem. In reality the pipes for the on site water are encased in a wooden "box" , maybe with insulation inside too, so should remain usable - fingers crossed!

I've got the Aquaroll cover from Bags 4 Everything in Wakefield - it has a built-in bit that the barrel stands on. I've only had to use it once in really cold conditions but it did a fine job for me. Material is waterproof so no sogginess!

Got it. Thanks. Yes that's the type with the velcro I think. Bags for Everything sell it.
I would certainly think it's far superior to the £18 variety.

The supply pipe cover is velcro attached, also on the side there is an opening if you want to have the barrels on there side. Really robust.

For the record - Bags4Everything, and I second the suggestion.

If visiting take A638 west from M1 J40 then take first exit left into Ossett. Their place is about 500m from the small junc at the top of the slip road and opposite a big blue-painted place called Walkers Windows.

It can certainly be used for that, but I've used as the "pump hole" on sloping pitches when standing the barrel upright would make an awkward connection. I've seen plenty of others do it too.
