We have wintered in Spain for the last two years and are going again January 7th 2008. We struggle to find good overnight stops in France for our caravan. Basic sites will do, we don't like autoroute aires. any suggestions based on experience?

Hi Rod,

Have a look at this link http://users.pandora.be/leo.huybrechts/b-frame.htm

It might help you to locate some French sites which are open all year round on your preferred route down to Spain.

What route do you take to Spain ie which ferry and what part of spain are you heading for?

Dave
we are going eurotunnel, ending up at villanova park near barcelona. not tied to a route, the best route for us will be the one with the most camp sites open

Rod, it's probably best to check with a phone call before setting off - that way you can be certain to find a pitch - or cross the site off your list if there's no reply!

Hi Rod I dont think I can help much with winter sites but If you where going down the A7 or N7 south of Lyon in the direction of Orange there is an all year site at Montellimar that we have used, right adjacent to the N7. Its Camping Floral page 425 2007 Caravan Club guide. The Belgian owners are a bit odd but friendly and will russle up a cheap meal in the cafe. They told us they even open on Xmas day.By the way have been to Villanova Park twice ourselves, liked it best up by the little zoo park.

Sorry cant be much help but have a good time.

We also travel down to Spain in Jan and in previous years we have stopped at Beaune, and Salses de Chateau near Perpignan.

This year it was St Pierre du Vauvray and Poiters.then St Jean de Luz. There is a site at Payrac which has a small restaurant on site. All of these are in the CC book.

Hi Rod,

Were off to La Managa (Murcia) on the 12/01/08 using Calais and the autoroutes south. We have opted to use the Camping & Caravan Clubs overnight sites. These are spread at around 250 miles apart so make Spain without a problem. Caravan Clubs large Europe book simply does not have suitable winter sites, they all close in the autumn !!!

Hi,

Have a look at Campingfrance.com Plenty of sites there, we used to have a route doing about 250 miles a day, from Zeebrugge and used to enjoy the trip.

If you are not tied to a route, how about the west coast route we use every year (although we start from Cherbourg). Here's a selection of all year sites, many near autoroutes. All in caravan Club Europe volume 1

Heric, between Rennes and nantes

Futuriste, at jauny Clan near Poitiers

Moulin Averne at Pons between Saintes and Bordeaux

2 sites at mirambeau, just north of brodeaux

several sites near St Jean de Luz - just north of Spanish border

Mendigorria just south of Pamplona

Savinan just north of Calatayud and south of Zaragoza

Manzanera between Tereul and Valencia

Navajas also between Tereul and Valencia.

This way avoids the middle of France which can be very cold. If you look at a map, the line from St jean to Valencia is not far off straight and it's 4 lane virtually all the way.

If you try it and see a MB 270cdi / Burstner S500TS going the same way, give us a toot !
