wiring a voltmeter

Just bought a second hand van without a voltmeter but just a green light on battery condition.
My question is how do I know the battery is being charged without a voltmeter and if I
buy one how do I wire it in. I have a multimeter but where do I place the probes to see
if the batter is actually being charged ?.
thanks for any info received.

Use the multimeter and check at the battery terminals, first with charger off, then with charger on.

As said with caravan disconnected from mains and car put meter om battery terminals. If you then switch on mains you should show about 13.6 volts if mains charger working.Disconnect from mains and connect to car and run engine and you should have about 14.2 volts if car is charging it.

Hi Picasso
Hope this helps if you wish to install a permanant Voltmeter.

Surgest you maybe put a push button in the circuit as you possibly don't want it glowing at you all night...
