Wiring to the towing relay

A quick question. When bringing a live feed to the refrigerator/battery relay, should it be a permanent live or ignition switched live ie an alternator feed

thanks jim

Hi Jim,

If you have a self switching relay then wire it in with a permanent live and a 20 amp fuse.

Their designed to switch on when the engine is running and the alternator is charging @ 13.6 volt's.

When you switch off the relay will automatically shut down when voltage drops under 12.6 volts.

The permanent live will shut off if the battery goes below 12 volts.

We use the Ryder self switching relay's which have proved very reliable.

Hello Jim

You refer to a relay so I presume you are using one. The live feed is just that, permanently live. Make sure you do include a fuse though, as Peter suggests. Maplins used to do blade fuse link, not sure if they still do.

It's the switched live that comes from an ignition switch live. In the past I've piggybacked off the thin wire that goes to the alternator. A multimeter would tell you if this is suitable on your car.
