We intend to keep going as long a health allows, we would then give up! the idea of rows of depressing statics is horrific to us! Give us a CL or CS with a water tap and elsan point and hopefully no other vans and we're happy!

Not while we are fit and healthy!

If things changed, I don't think we would dismiss the idea completely.

no way, same place, same neibours, same scenery, EVERY time, and the price of the ground rent after the purchase of a van
would make touring sound cheap
no thanks when it time to stop it will be time for the nursing home.

If you go for a static, presumably you will still need to drive to get there, shop etc. If you can drive, you can tow - even if not very far. Movers, drills for putting down the steadies etc. take out most of what used to be hard work. Take water and waste containers to the taps and drains in the car, forget about awnings and most outside furniture. Most caravanners are frindly helpful folk and will be only too happy to assist with anything heavy such as changing gas bottles - don't be afraid to ask.

We're currentlu on site in SE Spain and have just said farewell to a couple 85 and 87 with a fairly small motor van who follow the principles above and continue to enjoy the sun each Spring. Their routes need a bit of planning to keep the daily mileage down but apart from that no problems.

Thank you Parksy - couldn't understand why the post heading appeared but not the post itself !
Anyway, what it should have said was we were considering a Static as we are now into our third year as tourer owners and although I still love it, the Mrs is always filled with fear and dread when I'm reversing onto the driveway or into the storage yard pitch. The reason being she isn't practically minded and giving directions to help me line up properly nearly always ends in a huge row.
Having spent some time researching statics and reading several forums dedicated to them our opinion if swapping over has changed completely.
Yes, we would be stuck in the same place for every holiday, but I would be ok with that if it stopped all the anxiety she felt whenever a weekend away or longer holiday approached, however the horror stories we've read from static owners being ripped off by site owners for huge site fees, huge gas bills and disconnection fees etc has put paid to that idea.
Had a re-think and we're going to update to a newer tourer at the end of the year and have a motor mover fitted - hopefully problem solved.
When I first started this post all of the above was in it to ask others views on Static ownership, however since then, I've answered my own question with the help off you guys who replied, NO we won't give up touring - just had to find a solution to our manouvering problem! Cheers All and thanks again.

Simple answer is get a mover fitted.

We will tour until I feel I'm unable but I'm sure a mover would have helped despite the fact it's a neccessity to get on to our drive because of a wall and slope.

hi LADA,
You can allways trust the folks on here to give a honest reply. sometimes it's not the answer you expect, but then again some times the true answer is one that has not been thought of initaily.
there are many on the forum us included that would not still be touring without making some major consessions on outfit and equipment the biggest of these is the mover, it's that important.

Good decision Lada, and I'm glad that you managed to join us in the end.
I've heard some heartbreaking stories about rip off static park owners where elderly people have lost thousands of pounds.
Apart from a motor mover which is a great idea, have you ever thought about fitting a reversing camera to your caravan?
