xantia leaking

hi,does anyone have a xantia estate,we got an x reg last year, all was fine until it started raining heavily, then my 8 year old said, why is there water dripping from under the left hand side of lower dash.now we have leaks from there, the boot and left hand rear footwell.it is as though somebody just put a pin in the car,has anybody else had,or got this problem.bought it privately so no comebacks now.any suggestions to help, thanks, adrian

If you have a sunroof blow out the drainage channels with an airline.

Look for watermarks on the doorseals and make sure the doors shut properly (an accident could leave gaps)

I had the heater matrix go on a Xantia and that leaked into the r/h side footwell, that was visible with the engine hot.

Adrian,

Not sure if this will be of any help, but from past experience with two cars (not Zantias,) leaks from behind the dash have been caused by blocked drainage channels from the bulkhead 'shelf' under the bonnet. This is quite common if vehicles are parked near trees in the autumn when leaves etc. can obstruct the drains.

On a golf I had, the channels were located at the outer ends of the shelf; on a cavalier there is a rubber central drain.

Good luck.

Enjoy your holidays.

Hi, had the same problem a few years back on an N reg Xantia, there is a plastic strip around 3in wide that went the width of the car and linked the bottom of the windscreen to the bulk head under the bonnet. Took it off, cleaned it and resealed and was fine after.
