Does anyone have a Volvo XC90 as a towcar?

Thinking about buying one ....What would be the preference for gearbox.... manual or geartronic?

Replies appreciated.

Hi Wombat,

I have driven Volvo cars on & off for 15 years & if I could afford one I would love to own one.

I prefer automatic to manual as dont burn the clutch on hill starts & reversing onto a pitch.

Check out if both cars are in the same road tax bracket, as some cars the auto is in a higher bracket due to exhaust emmissions.

Hi Wombat

Would love one if I could afford. One thing I did see though which is worth checking out is that they're very heavy on front brake pads and discs. We were watching "Wheeler Dealer" programme on Sky. Mike Brewer, the presenter is telling a guy the pro's and con's of different motors he's (the punter) tested that the motor trade don't let on. Yes this did include the brake discs, apparently they're heavy on both, don't know why?

A mechanic friend told me years ago that since the removal of asbestos from friction pads, discs usually last roughly 2 pad changes. On the other hand changing discs hasn't been hard on the cars I've worked on. If you take the car in to a dealer work it out for yourself, probably

just a point of interest...ive had a toyota landcruiser colorado,a chrysler voyager and im now driving a toyota landcruiser amazon.all of these cars are fairly heavy, the voyager in 3yrs went through 3 sets of pads and 1 set of discs the colorado in 2 years went through 2 sets of pads and seeing as ive just bought the amazon ill be keeping my eye on the front pads in a few months time......as most of the brakeing is done throught he front brakes and the car being so heavy i would expect that the front brake pads would need changing at least every year

just a thought of mine but i could be completly wrong lol

Looking at the service recepits, the brake pads (Front & Rear) on my XC90 D5 lasted just under two years and covered 25k miles before having to be changed, the brake discs were still all okay.

Thanks for all the comments.

Test drove one at the weekend, GEARTRONIC type, found it to be perfectly acceptable even afetr being a manual driver for 24 years.

Just waiting for the dealer to get the right colour interior/exterior (dark - kids and dog!) model in and away we go.
