We test drove the 2004 dci uprated bhp Xtrail and have been told by the dealer for towing stick with this or newer. But of course this means more cash, we have not been able to test drive a pre-2004 model to see if there is much difference, just wondered if anyone has any views or experience of the old model v 2004 facelift?

the better the bhp 136 on the newer models give you a better torque ratio for pulling in low gear for hills and mud ect.

what size van are you pulling? Just seen these remarks on the weight being quoted for the Xtrail! We are MIRO1150kg MTLPM1350kg. Do you have cruise control on your model? This is something I have and use all the time on my Rover, but finding it hard to find a Xtrail with this on in our price range at the moment.
