Hi there I was looking at going to this site in June and wondered whether the travellers were still parked just at the entrance at of the site.If anybody knows this answer could you please let me know. Thanks alot Mike.

We were at Yellowcraigs at Easter and there were none in sight. Have read about this on the Forum on a few occassions but have been lucky - as we visit this site 3 or 4 times a year but have never seen any.
As you turn into the site there is a carpark for users of the park and beach and the Local Authority have erected a height restriction barrier to prevent access so hopefully this will have resolved the problem.

Again if this is a problem I'd prefer to know up front so that I can change my plans.
However this subject about travellers came up end of last year on this forum and the general comments seem to agree it was only a problem late summer eg: September and October, and that it happens each year, that travellers meet up and set up camp on the approach road to the site and near by car park, apparantly the reason is that at that time of year the council is not as hot in patroling the area and car parks.
However any further comments would be much appreciated!!

You should be ok the first Wed in June for a week as most of them will be at Appleby Horse Fair.

Hi was at yellow craig last weekend no travellers to be found . Will be harder for them now as council has put heavy fencing & strong barrier up . come on down its a great site.
Sorry swiftman, a barrier wont stop them, they will demolish that, I've seen them do it. Even a moat full of water wouldn't be a deterrent. Explosive mines around the area with a skull & crossbones sign might work though. Theres plenty of land on Salisbury Plain they could use near Bovingdon Camp :O)
I did read something about travellers that if they knock down/remove barriers to enter an area of land they can be removed straight away,instead of just driving onto an area where the land owner needs a order to get them removed about 10 days.Hence the height barriers,logs across entrances etc
If it is then Mikey it isn't applied. I was on duty at the ambulance station when some Irish tinkers did just that. I called the police and they were still stood on the VW van hammering away when the police arrived. They even carried on while the police were there and eventually the police left. Then then drove the Romanies off the site and we had to put up with them for 2 years. They trashed the place, even the toilet/shower blocks. They used to then wander across to the ditch outside our rest room window and use that for the toilet.
The Health authority spent thousands erecting a wooden fence around the land at the front of the ambulance station to stop them settling on that. They broke the locks on the gate then and put their horses on there.
Believe it or not they used to live amongst this mess. I took these pics within minutes of them leaving. The laundry room what was left standing was full of excrement and it was a hot day so didn't bother going inside to take a pic.

What always gets me is the numbers of gas cylinders they always leave behind obviously nicked,usually propane nicked from commercial operations but I see in your pics a few butane caravan cylinders.
What an anorak - looking at pictures to distinguish between a blue and a red gas cylinder. Surely to God there is more to life than gas cylinder spotting.
Gosh those pictures again. That must have been absolutely terrifying for you and your colleagues working next to that and those people.

Is that your caravan in the last pic LB it looks like it may need some work best get Jennybugs from the other place.
Not terrifying, just stinking and gut wrenching when you are about to take a bite of your sandwich and through the window spot a bare a$$ dumping in a ditch and the filthy ********s dont even wipe.
No, not my caravan but you can guarantee one thing, nothing's been paid for, even the stolen cars that they wrecked. They even smashed the new fence crashing a car into it once while being chased by the police. Needless to say once they turned into Romany Close the police gave up the pursuit and drove straight on :O)
LOL! Thanks but no thanks. I would say I'd be seeing some of that at you know where, you know when but I've never seen any of that sort of thing even with 30,000 odd around. I've even sat in or outside the pubs, shared a campsite with them. Ok, so there was some dog mess on site but apart from that and the wheelie bins full and overflowing with beer bottles etc, nothing.

Been using this site for years. Only seen travellers there once. Doesn't interfere with the site though not nice to look at.

Just returned from an enjoyable three night stay at Yellowcraigs. No sign of unwanted visitors anywhere in the area. This was our first visit to this site, would definitely recommend it.
